Salaried GP in Cockermouth

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will manage a patient caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities

• Make yourself available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations, queries, home visits, repeat prescriptions, and timely paperwork in accordance with the practice timetable.
• Undertake on‑call duty as Duty Doctor and/or Triage Doctor, including home visits, telephone triage, urgent on‑day appointments, and emergency duties on roving days.
• Make autonomous clinical decisions for presenting problems, both self‑referred and referred from other healthcare workers.
• Assess health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Develop care plans for health in line with current disease management protocols.
• Provide counselling and health education.
• Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
• Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
• Occasionally deal with private medicals and insurances.
• Cross‑cover other GPs during leave to cover post, results, tasks, and prescriptions.
• Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible.
• Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically when clinically appropriate.
• Assume all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation

• Adhere to all relevant practice policies and guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety).
• Commit to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
• Contribute to practice meetings and clinical meetings where appropriate.
• Participate in evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
• Support development of computer‑based patient records and patient record summarising, including read‑coding.
• Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies where appropriate.
• Participate in incentives such as Enhanced Services and QoF as directed.

Experience

• Experience in general practice and working in a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong EMIS knowledge.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise and entry on the GP Register.
• Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate.
• Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent.
• Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible.
• Evidence of continuous professional development.
• Evidence of other specialist interest, development or training.

£11,000 a session or higher based on experience.
