Southend Medical Centre is looking for a motivated, organised and patient-focused prescribing clerk, who can also provide some reception cover as part of our friendly team. This is a key role, supporting the smooth running of our practice and ensuring patients receive safe, timely and accurate prescription services. This role is offered on a full-time basis, for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The 7.5 hour shifts, which will be worked on a rota basis, are as follows:
- 08:00 - 16:30
- 10:00 - 18:30
We are looking for a start date in mid-July 2026. We may close the advert early if a suitable applicant is successful.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with our clinical and administrative teams to manage the day-to-day processing of prescriptions and support the reception desk when required. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of behind-the-scenes accuracy and front-of-house interaction.

Job responsibilities
- Processing repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols
- Liaising with GPs, pharmacists and patients to resolve medication queries
- Ensuring accurate data entry and maintaining patient records
- Supporting reception with patient enquiries, appointment booking and general administrative duties
- Managing workload effectively within a busy, fast-paced environment
- Upholding confidentiality and high standards of patient care at all times
Person Specification
What we are looking for:
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong mathematical aptitude and numerically literacy
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage complex and challenging patients
- Experience in a GP practice, prescribing team or medical administration - desirable but not essential
- A positive, flexible and team-focused attitude
