Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis for 25 hours per week.

The hours can be split over three days which must be Monday, Thursday and Friday or spread across the week from Monday to Friday.

This is a key role within the practice, providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to our clinicians whilst helping to ensure patients receive timely, safe and effective care throughout their healthcare journey.

The role is varied, rewarding and occasionally challenging, requiring excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.

Working as part of an experienced Medical Secretarial team, you will be involved in referral management, clinical correspondence, patient pathway monitoring and liaison with external healthcare providers.

Once you have successfully completed your probationary period, you will provide secretarial work for allocated clinicians in the practice team.

Main responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive secretarial service for GPs and healthcare professionals.
  • Process referrals through e RS and other referral pathways.
  • Manage and monitor patient pathways and referral outcomes.
  • Produce and process clinical correspondence, reports and letters.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using Systm One.
  • Liaise with hospitals, community services and external healthcare providers.
  • Manage and action communications received through email, telephone and correspondence.
  • Chase outstanding appointments, investigations and clinic letters where required.
  • Assist with administrative support for private work and external agency requests.
  • Provide support and cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave and absence.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Medical Secretarial Department and wider practice team.

You will be joining an experienced team of five Medical Secretaries who work closely together to support our clinicians and patients.

Whilst the role can be fast-paced, you will have the support of experienced colleagues and managers around you.

Our team enjoys a varied workload, no two days are ever the same, and we take pride in delivering a high-quality service whilst maintaining a positive working environment.

In addition to this you will need to be an animal lover with no allergies to dogs. We share an office with a working Cocker Spaniel who is an assistance hearing dog.

  • To be considered for this position, you will have the following;
  • Experience in a Medical Secretary or healthcare administration role.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Able to prioritise workload effectively and work accurately under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and information governance.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional, approachable and positive attitude.

About Us

We are a highly reputable, friendly and supportive semi-rural, dispensing, research and GP training practice operating in north Norfolk within the village of Hoveton/Wroxham, 6-miles to the north east of the fine city of Norwich.

We have a growing list size of approximately 10,500 patients.

We are also a member of the NN4 Primary Care Network, working closely with 5 other local practices.

From September 2026, Hoveton and Wroxham Medical Centre is managing primary care services at the new Magna Medical Centre in Rackheath.
