Wickhambrook Surgery is looking to welcome into our busy practice, a qualified dispenser, who will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team. This role is to start asap and is offered on a part-time basis for up to 32 hours per week working Monday to Friday. We can be flexible for the right applicant and can open this position to two part-time individuals but this can be discussed further at interview.
Main duties of the job
- Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme.
- Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
- Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
- Manage ordering stock and stock control.
- Answer and deal with dispensary phone enquiries.
- Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication.
- Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

Our practice is located within the beautiful Suffolk village of Wickhambrook between Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Haverhill. Located in Wickhambrook Suffolk, CB8 8XU. The practice runs from a purpose-built building. We serve a patient population of approximately 5,200 patients, dispensing nearly 100% of the practice population. Our traditional approach and family friendly ethos is very much appreciated by our patients. Teamwork is key to a well run dispensary. Our friendly dispensary team are committed to providing excellent patient service under the leadership of a dedicated Dispensary Manager. Working in general practice is busy, but it is also very rewarding. Knowing that we are helping our patient in what can sometimes be difficult periods in their lives is very satisfying. There is free car parking on site and nearby. All members of the team benefit from inclusion in the NHS Pension and receive a uniform.
