Ashburnham Road Surgery in Bedford are looking to welcome a practice nurse on a part-time basis for 12 hours per week. The working pattern will be working 6 hour shifts on a Monday and Tuesday each week with flexible hours.
The main responsibilities of the role include undertaking a range of nursing assessments and providing appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with GPs according to practice policy and protocols. Responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests.
- Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients’ health and social care needs are met.
- General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
- Managing chronic illness patients and long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs.
- Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
- Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health and contraception, and cervical cytology consultations.
- Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad.
All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
- A relevant nursing degree.
- Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
- Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.
- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
- Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work.
- The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
- Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
- Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
We are a small 2 GP, very friendly, well organised practice in the town centre. We look after 4,000 patients and our QOF points are consistently above 90%.
