We are seeking a skilled Pre-Commissioning Engineer with specialised experience in closed-loop systems within the water treatment industry. This role involves the planning, execution, and documentation of pre-commissioning activities for systems such as chilled water, heating water, and process water circuits. The successful candidate will ensure these systems are properly cleaned, tested, and prepared for commissioning and long-term operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing system designs, P&IDs, and technical documentation for closed-loop water systems (e.g., HVAC loops, process cooling, heating circuits).
- Developing and executing procedures for flushing, chemical cleaning, passivation, and pressure testing tailored to closed-loop systems.
- Coordinating with construction, mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to ensure systems are ready for commissioning.
- Conducting system integrity checks and cleanliness assessments (e.g., turbidity, TDS, iron content), and validating water quality.
- Overseeing filtration, biocide treatment, corrosion inhibitor dosing, and system balancing as needed.
- Managing temporary equipment such as flushing rigs, dosing skids, and filtration systems during pre-commissioning.
- Identifying and resolving system leaks, air locks, and circulation issues with minimal disruption.
- Maintaining accurate records of flushing sequences, test results, and system turnover documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards (e.g., BSRIA BG29/BG50, ASHRAE), and site safety requirements.
- Supporting commissioning and operations teams during system startup and performance validation.
What We're Looking For:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3-7 years of experience in pre-commissioning or water treatment, with a minimum of 2 years focusing on closed-loop systems.
- Practical knowledge of hydronic balancing, flushing, chemical treatment, and pressurisation systems.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and loop schematics.
- Strong understanding of water chemistry, corrosion control, and system protection measures.
- Proficient in the use of water testing equipment and analysis tools.
- Excellent organisational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with commissioning software and digital reporting tools is advantageous.
- Experience working with BSRIA BG29 and BG50 guidelines.
- Certifications in water treatment (e.g., L8 Legionella Awareness, BOAS, City & Guilds Water Treatment).
- Background in large-scale infrastructure, data centres, industrial, or pharmaceutical projects involving closed-loop systems.
- This is a site-based role involving activities on live construction or commissioning projects.
- Flexibility to work night shifts or weekends as project demands require.
- Physical ability to perform site inspections and manage mobile water treatment equipment.
