Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Programme Lead with the development and delivery of the Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing, provisionally accredited with the RCVS.
  • Develop and deliver course content in collaboration with the Programme Lead; provide personal tutoring to student veterinary nurses.
  • Support the development of future undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications in veterinary nursing related topics.
  • Contribute to coordination and delivery of core teaching in Veterinary Nursing and related modules in the Department of Life Sciences.
  • Examine and assist in the delivery of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
  • Support students at all stages of the programme as personal tutor.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection of students onto the FdSc Veterinary Nursing and future post-registration qualifications.
  • Ensure guidelines, policies and regulations are in place, updated and implemented to support learning; liaise with professional services for internal regulatory compliance.
  • Promote Veterinary Nursing through established recruitment and marketing activities.
  • Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.

Professional Practice, Enterprise & Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain an external profile (e.g., publications, professional bodies, external panels/examining).
  • Engage in external networking with stakeholders such as the BVNA and RCVS; participate in continued professional development.
  • Adhere to the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct for Veterinary Nurses.
  • Collaborate with the wider academic community and bid for external income where appropriate.

Person Specification – Essential

  • BSc in a relevant discipline; professional qualification in Veterinary Nursing and registered with the RCVS.
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience of veterinary nursing, policies, research and professional development.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical or academic veterinary nursing experience post-qualification.
  • Knowledge of the RCVS Day One Skills, Day One Competences, Professional Behaviours and Attributes and the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct for Veterinary Nurse.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level A0 with awareness of bilingual support procedures.

Desirable

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline; active interest in veterinary research and evidence-based veterinary nursing.
  • Teaching qualification and/or FHEA; commitment to learning Welsh.
  • Oral Welsh Level C1; written Welsh abilities may be advantageous.
