The Student Digital Skills Officer coordinates the digital capabilities agenda at Aberystwyth University, supporting colleagues in delivering a programme of digital, information literacy and academic skills training. Working with Academic Departments, Professional Services and the student community, the postholder develops digital resources, training and practice that are easily accessible to students and their supporters, embedding digital information and academic literacy within the curriculum.
What you’ll do:
- Identify digital skill sets necessary for staff roles and common skill gaps in university systems.
- Create an online presence on the AU website providing information on digital, information and academic skills services, training, and support.
- Embed digital, information and academic literacy in the curriculum in collaboration with academic and professional service departments.
- Deliver bilingual training to students and staff to support digital capabilities and academic skills development.
- Produce supporting digital materials or use ready‑made content for online training.
- Ensure training and support materials are available in Welsh as required.
- Report digital capability gaps to key stakeholders and plan delivery of digital capabilities in the curriculum.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the line manager.
- Support colleagues at peak workload times, attending university events which may include weekend work.

- Engage in continuous personal and professional development and undertake relevant training activities.
- Fulfil health and safety responsibilities and support environmental sustainability practices.
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree level or equivalent experience.
- Aware of current developments in digital capabilities, particularly in higher education.
- Experience delivering information to learners both in person and online.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to forge effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Experience working independently and within a team.
- Well‑developed IT skills using Microsoft Office.
- Oral and written Welsh Level B1 or evidence of ongoing commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
Desirable:
- Experience developing and delivering information to learners both in person and online.
- Experience communicating technical information to a range of stakeholders.
- Oral and written Welsh Level C1.
