You will be required to undertake general cleaning duties under the direction of the Manager or his/her nominee.
What You’ll Do
- Providing a high‑quality cleaning service within all designated areas (and immediately outside these areas), whilst ensuring a clean and hygienic condition, as directed and to the required standard.
- Prioritise own work and work around users of the building, ensuring that areas used first are cleaned as priority.
- Clean specified areas using the appropriate techniques, materials and equipment.
- Carry out a thorough deep clean of specified areas according to business needs.
- Maintain adequate stocks of cleaning chemicals and materials in store cupboard.
- Removal of refuse to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- To comply with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to COSHH, Health and Safety, Data Protection and Equal Opportunities Legislation.
- Be responsible for securing areas during and after cleaning (e.g., ensuring windows that have been open are then closed and appropriate doors are locked).
- Accompany Manager or nominee on inspections.
- Report any equipment failures or damaged equipment and potential hazards to the Line Manager.
- Assist with fire evacuation in residences whilst on duty.
- Report maintenance requirements within area of responsibility.
- Answer queries from staff and visitors in the building.
- Attend team meetings.
- Undertake all training courses as necessary to carry out duties.
- This position is physically demanding and involves lifting and carrying, occasionally up and down stairs, moving furniture and lifting bed linen.
- Carry out reasonable duties as requested by the Management Team.
- Work within any University Building.
- Cover additional hours from time to time, including evening shifts, as required.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
- Commit to the University’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and understand how it operates within the responsibilities of the post.
- Commit to your own development and that of your staff through effective use of the University’s Effective Contribution Scheme.
- Perform any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Who You’re Expected To Have
- Previous cleaning experience
- Good face‑to‑face communication skills and ability to provide excellent customer service
- Willingness to learn basic IT skills and comply with training courses detailed in the desirable section
- Ability to work in an organised manner, effectively as part of a team, and unsupervised
- Flexible working attitude and ability to follow instructions
- Appropriate level of health and fitness for lifting and carrying duties
- Oral and written Welsh Level A0, with an awareness of bilingual procedures at the University
