The purpose of this role is to provide assessment, academic, and administrative duties to support Aber Online, Aberystwyth University’s new fully online and asynchronous learning programme. With teaching experience commensurate with the grade, the successful candidate will have experience of university teaching, online teaching, or employment in the field of Psychology. They will oversee delivery of online course material in collaboration with AU academic departments, the Aber Online team, and partner Higher Education Partners (HEP), while maintaining a close relationship with online learners as they progress through their modules.
You will understand the needs of online learners and the importance of ongoing learning and professional development in an asynchronous, fully online environment. You will communicate effectively with online students (phone, video, email, VLE forums) and with Aber Online tutors, the Aber Online department, and wider AU staff. You will familiarise yourself with the online content and delivery through Canvas (VLE) and provide academic guidance, address queries, mark assessments, deliver weekly announcements, facilitate forums, and escalate issues as appropriate.
What you’ll do
- Oversee and implement an appropriate student learning experience in line with Aber Online and University quality assurance guidelines.
- Train in, and oversee the online learning environment and course delivery on Canvas.
- Provide academic guidance on course content and support to students.
- Mark summative and formative assessments, deliver weekly announcements and summaries, facilitate discussion forums, answer academic queries, liaise with colleagues, and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Monitor participation and progress, providing support where necessary.
- Plan own work within programme and team constraints.
- Provide feedback to students on their progress.
- Provide appropriate pastoral support related to academic progress.
- Complete risk assessment documentation when appropriate.
- Undertake administrative work related to online delivery (enrolment, feedback, evaluation, assignment marks) in accordance with Aber Online requirements and timescales.
- Engage in Quality Assurance processes for online courses, including feedback and moderation within timescales.
- Remain up to date with online curriculum development and experience of in-person, online, distance, and blended learning as appropriate.
- Undertake in-house training and meetings remotely.
- Support learning and assessment for Masters level Higher Education courses.
- Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.

Essential – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- A postgraduate degree (MSc) in Psychology or a closely related area.
- A PhD, or be close to completion in Psychology or a closely related area.
- Strong understanding of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods in Psychology.
- Recent teaching experience.
- Knowledge and experience of assessment in post-16 education and inclusive strategies for neurodiverse learners.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in HE online learning packages and VLEs.
- Proven ability to work in a team and communicate with diverse audiences.
- Commitment to professional development.
- Oral (spoken) and written Welsh Level A0 or ability to understand bilingual university context.
Desirable
- Experience teaching quantitative and/or qualitative research methods for Psychology.
- Training or leadership skills.
- Welsh Language Levels: Oral B1 and/or written proficiency.
