Location: Preventx HQ, MBP5, Meadowhall Business Park, Carbrook Hall Road, Sheffield S9 2EQ (On-site)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Shift Pattern: 11am-7pm Tue-Sat / Mon-Fri rotations

Role Overview

We’re seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our pre-analytical laboratory. As the first point of contact for incoming specimens, you'll ensure accurate booking, preparation, and storage of clinical samples, while maintaining compliance and supporting smooth laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and book clinical samples (blood, urine, swabs) into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Label, aliquot, and prepare specimens for downstream workflows.
  • Coordinate receiving and preparation of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring correct packaging and courier handover.
  • Segregate, label, and dispose of clinical waste in accordance with local regulations and SOPs.
  • Handle personal and clinical data in compliance with GDPR, ensuring confidentiality and secure record-keeping.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of sample tubes, reagents, labels, consumables, and storage media; raise requisitions as needed.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to keep reception and storage areas clean, organised, and compliant with ISO 15189 standards.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma, A-Level science subjects, or equivalent practical experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience in sample reception, booking, or logistics within a clinical or research laboratory.
  • Familiarity with LIMS or similar sample-tracking software.
  • Understanding of clinical waste disposal procedures and GDPR requirements.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of ISO 15189 quality standards.
  • Pump (manual/electric) truck certification for handling bulk shipments.
