Purpose of Role
To manage adherence to the pre-analytical lab rota, lead the Laboratory Technicians team, and support the Laboratory manager with daily operational responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing day-to-day performance of sample booking in and preparation processes to meet and where possible exceed sample TATs and laboratory KPIs.
- Managing laboratory QDIP board to ensure pre-analytical processes are monitored and managed effectively.
- Working with Laboratory Manager to establish and implement laboratory rota.
- Setting daily team targets and reporting to Laboratory Manager on progress/performance.
- Acting as a first point for Laboratory Technicians.
- Conducting weekly performance review meetings and regular One2Ones with Laboratory Technicians.
- Dealing with problematic samples and kits.
- Leading induction of Laboratory Technicians.
- Maintaining high productivity and motivation of all laboratory staff.
- Performing risk assessments and internal audits as required.
- Ensure the maintenance of laboratory records, including but not limited to, problem samples record, nonconformance and CAPAs within area of expertise.
- Performing training/training the trainer/CACs in area of expertise.
- Driving continuous improvement in area of expertise.
- Maintain own competency in all technical areas of the laboratory.
- Raising concerns in a timely manner to facilitate CAPAs those relating to sample booking in, preparation, safety and KPIs.
- Establish and adopt best practices for all activities within their remit.
- Reporting any non-conformances or accidents to a member of management.
- Ensuring constant compliance with the Quality System and ISO 15189 accreditation.
- Operates in conformance with the requirements of the management system and quality manual.
- Adheres to the requirements of the confidentiality disclosure agreement and policy.
- Handling and correct disposal of confidential and hazardous waste streams.
- Performing and recording stock checks.
- Booking in and preparation of laboratory samples (urine, swab, and blood).
- General laboratory duties and housekeeping.
