About Prevail Partners

Prevail Partners is a leading British intelligence, security and operational support company. We help governments, NGOs and commercial organisations operate safely and effectively in some of the world's most complex environments by combining intelligence, technology and operational expertise. Our teams deliver actionable insight that helps clients manage risk, make informed decisions and achieve meaningful operational impact where it matters most. Our shared mission is to deliver unrelenting excellence in everything we do, underpinned by integrity, curiosity, accountability and care.

About the Role

We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to join our Platform & System Operations (PSO) team on a permanent basis. Prevail’s PSO team builds the tools and platforms of our technology landscape, used day to day by the intelligence analysts behind our client investigations. Today these solutions are highly specialised and application-specific, but they share the same backend core: Databricks, AWS and Python, with React on the frontend where needed. We're bringing these tools together into a single, consolidated intelligence platform, and this role will play a part in that evolution.

As a Full Stack Engineer, you'll design, build and maintain the applications that power our business – from APIs and services on our Python and AWS backend, through to the user interfaces intelligence analysts use directly, some of which are built in React. Our ambitions go beyond internal tooling: we're building towards a broader platform offering that, over time, we expect to extend to clients as well, and you'll play a part in shaping that as it grows. You'll work closely with the rest of the engineering team to turn requirements into reliable, well-engineered software.

This is a mid-level role suited to someone with solid full stack experience who is comfortable owning features end to end, wants to help shape a growing platform, and is motivated by building tools that have a genuine, tangible impact on real investigations. We’re looking for someone who can find the balance between pragmatism and craftsmanship, knowing when to move fast and when to invest in the right foundations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain full stack features across our Databricks, Python and AWS backend and the frontend of our internal tools, several of which are built in React.
  • Work with Solution Engineers and analysts to understand requirements and translate them into well-architected, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Build and maintain APIs and services on AWS that power our internal tools.
  • Contribute to the ongoing consolidation of our application-specific tools into a single intelligence platform, helping define shared components and patterns.
  • Write clean, tested, well-documented code, and participate in code review to help raise the bar across the team.
  • Take ownership of features from design through deployment, including monitoring and support once in production.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues by working directly across the business to identify root causes.
  • Help evolve our engineering practices, tooling and CI/CD processes as the team and platform grow.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a collaborative, high-standard engineering culture.
  • Maintain high standards of data security and information handling given the sensitive nature of the intelligence and client data our tools support.

Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven professional experience as a full stack engineer, with solid hands-on experience across backend and frontend development.
  • Strong Python skills, with experience building APIs or backend services.
  • Practical experience with React (or an equivalent modern frontend framework), building production user interfaces.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and cloud-native architecture.
  • Comfortable working with SQL and reasoning about data models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down ambiguous requirements into a clear technical plan.
  • Good communication skills, able to work directly with Solution Engineers and, where needed, analysts to clarify requirements.
  • A methodical approach to testing, code quality and documentation.
  • High levels of IT literacy, including confidence picking up new tools and frameworks quickly.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Databricks or Spark, or another large-scale data processing platform.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working in a small or fast-moving engineering team, ideally building internal tools or platforms.
  • Experience contributing to the consolidation or re-architecture of multiple applications into a single platform.
  • Experience using AI-assisted or agentic development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) as part of a disciplined engineering workflow – able to critically review, test and take full ownership of any AI-generated code.
  • An interest in or awareness of the intelligence, OSINT, security or investigations space.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or reviewing others' code.
  • Experience producing clear technical documentation and user guides.

How to prepare for a job interview at Prevail

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Prevail uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
