We’re looking for a Front End Developer to join the team here at Pretty Pragmatic. If you’ve got a passion for creating engaging, appealing and speedy sites along with great attention to detail and a good eye for design, then we’ve got just the job for you.

As a Front End Web Developer at Pretty Pragmatic, you’ll work with the tech team and wider agency to deliver fantastic digital products and outstanding results for clients who really appreciate what we do for them. You will be responsible for transforming web designs into attractive and user-friendly web pages using your skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, working both with static pages and Umbraco views.

We’re looking for someone with at least a couple of years digital agency experience, with a strong eye for design, who loves to build quality solutions. You’re a great fit for the role if you have:

  • A good working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with CSS pre-processors such as Sass.
  • Loads of experience creating responsive user interfaces, particularly replicating modular designs into real life functioning websites.
  • A great eye for detail - spotting inconsistencies, refining interactions and ensuring the highest level of quality across all deliverables.
  • Some experience working with content management systems, such as Umbraco or WordPress.
  • A strong desire to lead technical projects, take initiative and drive development forward beyond just writing code.
  • An eagerness to actively contribute fresh ideas, make thoughtful suggestions and work closely with UX and design teams to refine and elevate projects.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments, across multiple projects, and adapting to evolving client needs.
  • A readiness to learn new techniques, use new approaches and to keep up-to-date with industry advances.
  • Experience working with Figma (or equivalent e.g., XD), even better if you’ve used them to create UIs yourself.

And some nice to haves:

  • Experience with Git version control.
  • Knowledge of PHP and building WordPress themes.
  • Interaction design understanding, with a passion for usability and accessibility.
  • Ability to output clean, commented, and team-friendly code.

If you’re ticking the boxes, then it’s probably a good time to let you know the type of person we’re looking for!

A keen bean – you’ll love planning, plotting, & having ideas that you make a reality.

A curious type – you’ll be inquisitive and want to learn new things as you go, particularly all things digital.

An eye for the design detail – you can spot where there’s too much padding from a hundred yards away.

You’re up for some fun – we’re here to enjoy what we do & want you to add to the fun too.

You enjoy getting the little details right – from taking on UX & UI design and functional spec documents, you’ll be the one to help us make sure it’s right first time!

Working at Pretty Pragmatic: We’re Pretty Pragmatic. The marketing agency combining creative flair with deep digital know-how, and the people delivering sensational strategies that just make sense. We make brands perform, setting the stage for our clients to win over their audiences with charismatic content, outstanding sites, beautiful brands, compelling campaigns, and super search visibility.

We have six internal principles for how we work:

  • Give & Take – we’re not a rigid 9-5:30 place. We work in real life – if you need to start a bit later or finish early, we can make it work.
  • Make It Happen – if you have a good idea, don’t be afraid to be the one to make it real.
  • Basics, Then Brilliance – we do the basics well. Then find ways to go beyond.
  • Strive To Stand Out – we like competition. There’s no shame in wanting to be the best.
  • Win Together, Lose Apart – we help each other whenever we can. It makes a big difference.
  • Pride Over Profit – we stand up for what we believe in, we don’t just bow to a big budget.

Along with this, we offer 25 days holiday and your birthday off – as we all need to enjoy some R&R! We also have an annual £500 training allowance per person for your development to make sure you’re continually progressing, insightful masterclasses to share knowledge across the teams, 'Healthy Habits' wellness allowance, pension, Headspace subscription, a week each year where you can ‘work from anywhere’, increasing holidays with tenure, and a range of other PP perks.

We’re based in Bristol and looking for someone who will be able to work from our lovely studio space in The Paintworks three days a week, two days at home.

If you’re excited about this opportunity, we’d love to hear from you, email join@prettypragmatic.com with your CV along with a portfolio site if you have one, and we’ll be in touch.
