Role Description

The Assistant Manager role at Pret A Manger in Leeds is a full-time, on-site position responsible for supporting the overall operation of the shop.

Day-to-day, the Assistant Manager helps lead and motivate the team, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient food and beverage preparation, and adherence to Pret’s quality standards.

This role involves supervising shifts, managing stock levels, monitoring food safety and hygiene, and supporting scheduling to meet business needs.

The Assistant Manager also assists with training and coaching team members, handling customer feedback, and contributing to a positive, inclusive work environment.

In collaboration with the Shop Manager, the Assistant Manager helps drive sales, manage costs, and uphold Pret’s values of kindness, generosity, and honesty.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food service or retail operations, including supervising shifts and supporting day-to-day shop management.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams, provide feedback, and foster a respectful, inclusive workplace.
  • Customer-focused mindset, with proven ability to deliver friendly, efficient service and handle customer queries or concerns professionally.
  • Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and basic health and safety practices in a hospitality or retail environment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, including experience with scheduling, stock control, and maintaining shop standards.
  • Numeracy and basic business awareness to support sales targets, cost control, and performance metrics.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for working with diverse teams and customers.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by shop operations.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or assistant management role is highly beneficial.
