We’re Pret: proud makers of freshly made food, organic coffee, and big ideas. Across 750+ shops and 20+ countries, our teams are shaping the future of Pret through innovation, inclusion, great customer service and a shared passion for doing the right thing. We’re growing fast on our mission to be the employer of choice in hospitality, everywhere we operate – so this is an exciting time to hop on board.

We Believe in Growing Good Things. Growth is at the heart of everything we do. From the freshly hand-made food we create every day, to supporting our teams, we help our people grow in confidence, skills and to pursue their unique paths. Pret is where passionate, hardworking, wonderful people (like you!) find what they need to shine. And the proof is in the pudding – over 80% of our Managers started on the shop floor! So did 20% of our Support Centre teams, including our CEO, Pano.

What we’re looking for: We’re looking for passionate team players to bring joy to our customers every day. As a Lead Integrations Engineer, you’ll set the standards and patterns the Integrations Engineers follow across our Azure integration stack (APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid), line-manage the team, and personally deliver the most complex and highest-risk flows in the estate. All new integration assets at Pret are being built on Azure; the legacy MuleSoft Anypoint estate is in a controlled wind-down through this programme. You will own that migration end to end and keep the legacy MuleSoft flows safely operational and well-led until they retire. Expect to spend roughly half your week in code, building, debugging, reviewing pull requests, pairing with engineers and the other half on architecture, standards, vendor conversations, team leadership and stakeholder engagement.

This is the key technical leadership role for integrations at Pret. Reporting to the Head of Data & Integrations, you will lead Pret's Integrations team and own the target architecture that connects our SaaS platforms, including Workday, Oracle Symphony, NetSuite and e-commerce systems, with our data, finance and operational platforms. You will also be responsible for building the team's most complex integrations yourself, using the same tools and technologies as the rest of the team. We are not looking for a hands-off manager. This role is for a senior engineer who has grown into leadership without losing their technical edge. You will have led an integrations team working across both MuleSoft and Azure and understand first-hand what it takes to migrate an integration estate from one platform to the other without disrupting the business. If your last hands-on Azure integration build was three years ago, this is probably not the role for you. But if you still enjoy tackling a challenging Function App on a Friday afternoon while also developing and mentoring a high-performing team, we'd love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the technical owner for the integration’s estate: the single accountable engineering voice on integration architecture, standards and delivery, reporting to the Head of Data & Integrations.
  • Line-manage the Integrations Engineers (FTE and FTC): own performance, development, one-to-ones, and the team's engineering culture.
  • Own the integration architecture for Pret's SaaS source systems and internal services, including Workday, Oracle Symphony, NetSuite, ecommerce platforms and others. All new build is on Azure.
  • Personally design and build the hardest, highest-risk integrations on the Azure integration stack (APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid).
  • Lead the team through the controlled wind-down of the legacy MuleSoft Anypoint estate: keep it safely operational while in use, sequence and migrate flows onto the Azure stack on the programme timeline and decommission cleanly.
  • Define and enforce integration patterns and standards across the team: API design, event-driven flows, retry/error handling, idempotency, observability, security all anchored on Azure-native services.
  • Produce reference implementations on the Azure stack that the team builds from APIM API templates, Function App patterns, Service Bus topologies, deployment pipelines.
  • Run a healthy engineering practice in the team: review every non-trivial pull request, pair on the hardest pieces, unblock the team in code where needed, and grow more junior engineers.
  • Build and maintain the team's engineering toolchain on Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, test frameworks, observability dashboards in Application Insights and Log Analytics.
  • Work with the Data Engineering on the boundary between integration and data engineering, which data lands where, in what shape, on what cadence.
  • Define and maintain the API and integration catalogue: what we have, who owns it, what it does, what SLA it runs to.
  • Manage supplier and vendor relationships across the integration stack, including Microsoft, the MuleSoft wind-down, and any third-party connectors.
  • Be the senior technical voice in vendor and SaaS conversations on integration capability.
  • Act as senior technical escalation point and on-call backstop for major integration incidents, including evenings and weekends where required.
  • Report progress, risks and architectural decisions clearly to the Head of Data & Integrations and to programme leadership.
  • Stay current with developments in Azure integration services and bring practical, working recommendations back to the team ideally as proof-of-concept code.

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • 6+ years' experience in integration / API engineering, with a recent track record of personally designing AND building production integrations on Azure. This is a builder-manager role.
  • Proven experience leading an integrations team across both MuleSoft and Azure — line-managing or technically leading a team of integration engineers through the delivery and operation of a real estate on both platforms, including hiring, performance management and developing engineers.
  • Demonstrable experience leading an integration estate off MuleSoft Anypoint and onto Azure: sequencing the migration, keeping the legacy flows stable and supported through the transition, and decommissioning cleanly.
  • Deep, current, hands-on experience building production integrations on the Azure stack: APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps (C# or Node.js), Service Bus, Event Grid, and the supporting Azure platform (Key Vault, Managed Identity, Application Insights, Log Analytics). You should have committed Azure integration code in the last 12 months.
  • Strong API design skills (REST, JSON, OpenAPI) and event-driven patterns implemented on Azure services with examples of what you've built, not just designed.
  • Demonstrable experience designing AND personally building integrations with enterprise SaaS systems ideally including Workday, Oracle Symphony, NetSuite, Salesforce or comparable systems.
  • Strong understanding of API security on Azure, OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, Managed Identity, Key Vault, APIM policies applied in real implementations you have built or led.
  • Demonstrable experience setting and enforcing engineering standards across a team of integration engineers by example and by code review, not by document alone.
  • Strong commercial awareness understands Azure consumption cost drivers, vendor commercials and TCO of integration choices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to write a clear architecture decision record AND a clean pull request description, and to brief senior stakeholders in plain language.
  • Comfortable working flexibly during critical delivery windows or major incidents, including evenings and weekends where required.
  • Right to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Desirable:

  • Microsoft Azure certifications, particularly the Azure Solutions Architect Expert or the Azure Developer Associate.
  • MuleSoft certification (MCD / MCIA) alongside current Azure delivery.
  • Experience personally building Azure integrations with Workday, Oracle Symphony or NetSuite.
  • Experience migrating an integration estate off another legacy platform (BizTalk, Tibco, Boomi or similar) as well as MuleSoft.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures at scale on Azure.
  • Experience defining Azure landing-zone or platform-level standards (networking, identity, observability) for an integration estate.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, QSR or omnichannel.

About you:

  • Be kind, honest and generous: bring genuine warmth and your authentic self to work every day.
  • Bring your passion: share our passion for food and exceptional customer service.
  • Spread joy every day: small acts of kindness are a big part of what makes the Pret experience special.

We offer:

  • Competitive Salary and 20% bonus potential.
  • Gold Card: We love making people’s day through our food and drinks. That goes for our teams too. That’s why everyone gets a Gold Card. When you’re in the office, your food and drinks are on us. And when you’re not, you can use your Gold Card to get up to 5 Barista-made drinks a day, and 50% off everything else (food, snacks, bottled drinks – the lot).
  • A few more perks: You’ll get 33 days of annual leave (including flexible Bank Holidays), increasing to 38 days the longer you’re with us. Free private medical cover, with the option to add family or partner at an additional cost. 4% of your pension contribution matched by Pret, rises to 5% after 5 years. Life assurance at 3x annual salary. Loyalty award for 5, 10, 15, 20 years’ service. Flexible Benefits Platform packed with lifestyle discounts. Season ticket loans. Healthcare cash plan. Financial wellbeing provisions. Free mortgage services. Sabbatical after 3 years. Opportunities to support our charity, The Pret Foundation.

Individual ways to grow: We offer lots of opportunities for learning, whether you join us for a short stint or the long game, you’re good to grow with us. Including fully funded professional qualifications, leadership development and mentoring.

Diversity and belonging: Everyone is welcome at Pret, we want you to feel confident and valued for who you are and to truly belong.

Pace and variety: Our work is fast paced with lots of variety, you’ll build a diverse skill set and learn a lot!

Community and purpose: We’re proud to make a difference through The Pret Foundation, from tackling homelessness to reducing food waste and creating positive change for people and communities.

Our values: Happy Teams, Happy Customers, Amazing Standards, Every day, Never Standing Still, Doing The Right Thing.

The interview journey: Every interview process at Pret begins with the same two stages. First, you’ll have a relaxed 30-minute conversation with our recruitment team so we can get to know you and your experience. Next, you’ll be invited to a one-hour, in-person interview with the hiring manager at our Head Office in London Victoria. Depending on the role and function, there may be additional stages. These could include time spent in one of our shops, completing a task, or meeting a senior leader.

Before you apply: This role is based at Pret’s Support Centre in London Victoria, where we work in a hybrid way - typically three days a week in the office. We’d love to get to know you, not a robot, so please do not rely on AI to complete your application.
