As a well-loved and established medical practice, Preston Grove Medical Centre is situated in the busy town of Yeovil on the Somerset/Dorset border. We are now looking for a Patient Services Assistant / Receptionist to join us on a permanent, part-time basis, working 21.5 hours per week.
The shift pattern for this role is as follows:
- Tuesday: 08:00 – 12:00, 13:00 – 17:00
- Wednesday: 14:00 – 18:30
- Friday: 08:30 – 12:30, 13:30 – 18:30

The Role:
As our Patient Services Assistant / Receptionist, you’ll be at the heart of our practice, providing a reception and administration service for the medical centre. Acting as our first point of contact for patients, doctors, nurses and colleagues, you will support our positive and nurturing care environment, handling set tasks and following protocols as required.
Specifically, you will field inbound calls from patients and their relatives, as well as other medical staff, respond to in-person queries, register patients and book appointments, helping everyone feel cared for and attended to. Alongside this, you will direct calls to the right location, keep an eye on the reception area, inform patients of delays and handle any complaints in a professional manner, escalating issues as necessary.
Additionally, you will:
- Update computer records using online and clinical systems
- Ensure relevant information is available to GPs
- Manage incoming post
- Ensure our reception area is welcoming and orderly for all visitors
- Provide patients with information and test results
About You:
To be considered as a Patient Services Assistant / Receptionist, you will need:
- Experience working with the general public
- A caring and positive approach to queries
- Sensitive communication skills, ensuring confidentiality at all times
- Basic keyboard skills
- An organised approach
- At a minimum, GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4 - 9 (C - A*) in English and Maths
