Preston is an ambitious, forward‑thinking city — and we’re looking for an experienced and proactive Assistant Director (Head of Policy and Transformation) to help shape its future. In this key position, you’ll lead the Council’s transformation programme, drive high‑impact organisational change, and steer our strategic approach to policy development.
You’ll also play a critical role in preparing the Council for Local Government Reorganisation, working closely with regional partners and senior leaders. You’ll lead a modern, ambitious transformation programme aligned to the Corporate Plan as well as high‑quality strategic policy development across the organisation.
You’ll deliver major organisational and technological change projects, engage with elected members, partners, and stakeholders within a context of strong governance, risk management and performance monitoring. You’ll need senior experience in policy, transformation or organisational change, as well as strong political awareness and confidence working with elected members.
You’ll be an excellent leader and communicator with the ability to manage complex programmes that deliver real impact, enhance performance and efficiency, improve outcomes for local communities and modernise the way in which the Council does business.
