Reporting directly to the CVRM General Manager, the CVRM Assistant Manager is responsible for the efficient and profitable day-to-day operation of the commercial workshop, including the management of all associated ancillary services as directed by the General Manager. A key objective of this role is to support the General Manager in achieving strategic business growth and maximizing operational profitability.
Responsibilities
- Operational Management & Efficiency
- Oversee Daily Operations: Manage the daily operations of the commercial workshop, collaborating with the General Manager and Supervisors to ensure rapid and efficient job turnaround times that maximize profitability.
- Work Allocation: Efficiently issue and delegate job assignments to all direct reports, including technicians, supervisors, and administrative personnel.
- Health & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in full compliance with all Health and Safety legislation and company policies. Work proactively with the General Manager to uphold these standards.
- Overtime Control: Manage and control departmental overtime, ensuring it is only utilized when essential due to specific job requirements or workload demands.
- Job Card Pricing: Accurately price all job cards based on hourly rates agreed by General Manager, applying approved parts pricing uplifts, and adhering to Service Level Agreement (SLA) contract pricing. Escalate complex financial matters to the General Manager for review.
- Profitability Focus: Drive departmental profitability through efficient operations without compromising the quality of service or neglecting customer requirements.
- Parts & Inventory Management: Liaise closely with the parts department for stock requirements and Vehicle Off Road (VOR) parts. This includes making direct orders and strategically balancing stock levels against usage frequency and cost-effectiveness.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Inspection & Roadworthiness: Review and approve all vehicle inspection documentation (paper or electronic) against the standards set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Guide to Roadworthiness, external regulatory policies, and Rotala's internal policies. Sign off inspection paperwork to confirm a vehicle's roadworthiness, or holding vehicle off the road, consulting with the General Manager as necessary.
- People Management & Development
- Staff Development: Identify and highlight training needs for departmental staff and self, reporting these to the General Manager to ensure continuous professional development.
- Employee Relations: Conduct disciplinary, grievance, and absence management reviews in strict accordance with Company policy, escalating matters to the General Manager when required.
- Communication & Reporting
- External Communication: Maintain professional communication with external customers regarding their vehicles, promptly advising them of any identified defects, VOR issues and necessary repairs.
- Daily Reporting: Provide the General Manager with a daily report summarising workshop activities, job turnaround performance, and any emerging operational issues.
- Other Tasks: Carry out any other reasonable task asked of them by the General Manager or Directors.
Working hours are usually 7am — 4pm, Monday to Friday, you may be required to work weekends and anti-social hours as well as statutory holidays. A flexible approach toward working hours is required to ensure effective cover throughout each day of operation.
