£15.66 per hour (35 hours per week) Hull Based
Our client is a well-established facilities management provider delivering cleaning and cooking services across education and community sites. Their focus is on quality food, great service, and well-run operations.
Due to ongoing service requirements, they are looking to appoint an experienced Kitchen Manager to lead the catering service at a busy secondary school in Hull. This is a key role responsible for food quality, team leadership, customer satisfaction, and budget control.
The Role
As Kitchen Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school kitchen and food service. You'll lead the catering team, maintain high food and hygiene standards, and build positive relationships with school staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the daily school meal service
- Leading, supporting, and motivating the kitchen and front-of-house team
- Planning menus in consultation with the school and gathering customer feedback
- Ensuring meals meet dietary, allergy, cultural, and nutritional requirements
- Monitoring food quality, portion control, presentation, and waste reduction
- Promoting the service through events and activities to increase uptake
- Ensuring high standards of customer service at all times
- Managing stock, suppliers, and ordering in line with approved product lists
- Keeping accurate records including sales, meal numbers, training, and stock
- Managing labour and food costs to stay within budget
- Handling cash procedures where required
- Recruiting, training, and developing team members
- Delivering team briefings and ongoing training, including health & safety updates
About You
We're looking for a confident catering professional who combines strong kitchen experience with leadership ability. We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience managing a kitchen or catering operation
- Food Safety Level 3 (current)
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety
- Experience leading and developing teams
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
- Experience managing food costs and stock control
- Comfortable using IT systems for records, stock, and reporting
- Experience with cashless catering systems (desirable)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Understanding of safeguarding in a school environment
