Business Development & Account Manager for North East England, Yorkshire, Humber & Wales. Hybrid Role with a basic salary of £40k and an OTE of £70k.

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established and respected leader within the UK maritime supply sector, delivering comprehensive ship chandlery and support services to vessels calling at ports across the UK. Following significant investment and continued business growth, they are expanding their commercial team and are looking to appoint an ambitious Business Development & Account Manager to drive sales growth across a key strategic territory.

Location

Home based with regular travel throughout the territory covering: Hull, Immingham, Grimsby, Goole, Teesport, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Tyne, Blyth, Milford Haven, Newport, Port Talbot, Cardiff.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm. Flexibility will be required to meet customer and business needs.

The Role

As Business Development & Account Manager, you will take ownership of a strategically important territory, focusing on identifying new business opportunities while nurturing and expanding existing customer relationships. Acting as the face of our client within your region, you will work closely with customers and internal teams to deliver exceptional service and commercial success. This is a field-based role requiring regular visits to ports, vessels and customer sites, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships and working independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities through proactive customer engagement and regular vessel visits.
  • Manage, maintain and grow an established portfolio of customer accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with Ship Masters, Chief Stewards, Ship Owners, Ship Managers and Ship Agents.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue through cross-selling and upselling additional products and services.
  • Generate, qualify and follow up on sales opportunities to maximise business growth.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and sales activity using Salesforce CRM.
  • Represent our client at industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sales Manager, Internal Sales and Operations teams to ensure outstanding customer service.
  • Effectively manage your diary and territory to maximise customer contact and achieve sales targets.
  • Monitor market activity and competitor trends to identify new commercial opportunities.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and commercially focused individual who is passionate about developing business and building lasting customer relationships. You'll ideally have:

  • Proven success within business development, account management or B2B sales.
  • Experience within the maritime, shipping, ports or marine services sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, target-driven approach with a strong commercial mindset.
  • The ability to work independently whilst managing a large geographical territory.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Confidence using CRM systems, ideally Salesforce.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

  • One week of field-based mentoring alongside the Sales Manager.
