Digital and Large Format Print Operator

Digital and Large Format Print Operator

Full-Time On-site
Presswift

Presswift is an online printer with its own print room in Battersea. Orders arrive through the website all day, from business cards, flyers, booklets and stickers to posters, banners and rigid boards, and most of them are printed, finished, packed and on a courier within a day or two. We hold ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 and FSC certification, so the standards are part of how the print room runs.

We are looking for someone ambitious who wants to learn the trade properly and is happy to muck in wherever the day needs it. You will work across small format and large format, follow jobs from the artwork to the parcel, and talk to the customers they belong to. No two days are the same, and the more you learn the more you will be trusted with.

What you will be doing

  • Printing: setting up and running jobs through the Fiery on the digital press and on the large format and flatbed printers, checking colour, registration and quality as you go.
  • Finishing: guillotining, creasing, folding, laminating, foiling, booklet making and cutting on the Zünd digital cutting table.
  • Packing: checking every job against its job sheet, then packing it so it arrives the way it left, from a box of cards to a full size board.
  • Shipping: booking couriers, labelling parcels and making the daily collections, so each order goes out on the day it was promised.
  • Customers: answering enquiries by phone, email and chat, from a quick order update to talking someone through paper, sizes and artwork.
  • Keeping the print room moving: stock and consumables, routine machine care, and a tidy, safe working space.
  • Standards: working to the procedures behind our ISO and FSC certification and keeping the records that go with them.
  • Local deliveries and collections from time to time, if you drive.

What we are looking for

  • An understanding of how print flows through a business: artwork, printing, finishing, packing and shipping, and how a delay at one stage lands on the next.
  • Ambition and curiosity. You want to learn new machines, materials and ways of working, and you ask why as well as how.
  • A muck-in attitude. Your day-to-day activities change with the work that comes in, so you print, trim, pack and pick up the phone when that is what the day needs.
  • Flexibility. Priorities change through the day with rush orders and courier cut-offs, and you can change with them without losing care.
  • An eye for detail. You notice the trim that is a millimetre out or the colour that has drifted before the customer does.
  • Clear, friendly communication with customers and with the team.
  • Confidence with computers: PDFs, email and our online ordering portal.
  • The role is hands-on. Most days involve standing, lifting and moving boxes of paper and boards, with the right equipment and help. Tell us about any adjustments you would need.

Good to have

None of these is essential. Tell us about any that apply.

  • A full UK driving licence. It is preferred, as the role can include local deliveries and collections.
  • Time spent in a print room, copy shop, sign maker or finishing house.
  • Experience running a digital press, a large format or flatbed printer, a guillotine or a cutting table.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop, for checking and fixing customer artwork.
  • Fiery, Zünd Cut Center or another RIP or cutting workflow.
  • Working knowledge of print-ready artwork: bleed, trim, resolution and CMYK.

What you will get

  • Training across small format and large format equipment, from press to cutting table.
  • Access to a modern and evolving customer and business ordering portal, so you see the whole operation from the order landing to the parcel leaving, and what you notice on the floor shapes what gets built next.
  • Real variety: wedding stationery in the morning, exhibition boards in the afternoon.
  • A place where your work is seen, your ideas are used and there is room to grow as the business grows.

Before you apply

  • You must already have the right to work in the UK. We are not able to sponsor visas.
  • Successful candidates go through a DBS check and BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance before starting.
