To contribute to the Christian ministry and mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland through the delivery of the duties outlined. To be an active member of the General Assembly's staff team, contributing to the effective administration of its functions and assisting in the development of strategies and plans for the delivery of its agreed objective in a manner in keeping with the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Under the Leadership of the Secretaries of the Council for Mission in Ireland and the Council for Global Mission to assist to implement decisions of the General Assembly relevant to those Councils and to carry forward their delegated responsibilities. To support the Council for Global Mission in the processes of recruitment, induction, in service training and ongoing pastoral care for mission staff working under the Council. To support the Council for Mission in Ireland in the processes, as appropriate, of recruitment, deployment, induction, in service training and ongoing pastoral care for non-ministerial field staff working under the Council.

Responsibilities relating to Council for Global Mission:

  • Under the direction of the Secretary of the Council for Global Mission, to have lead responsibility in assisting the Council in the recruitment and training of global mission workers, their home support, pastoral care and deputation programmes while serving overseas and at home.
  • In the delivery of its remit through overseeing, reviewing and developing policies and processes in the member care of the Council's mission personnel.
  • In the servicing of the Council's Global Mission Worker Panel and the compilation of appropriate reports for other Committees and the Council, as required.

Responsibilities relating to the Council for Mission in Ireland:

  • Under the direction of the Secretary of the Council for Mission in Ireland, to have lead responsibility in assisting the Council in supporting the Council's Mission Personnel and the compilation of appropriate reports for relevant Committees and the Council, as required.
  • To support the Council in the processes of recruitment, deployment, induction, in service training and ongoing pastoral care for non-ministerial field staff working under the Council.
  • In overseeing, reviewing and developing processes and policies relating to recruitment, induction, initial training and support of non-ministerial field staff working for the Council for Mission in Ireland, as appropriate.

General:

  • To arrange regular events for the inspiration, training and mutual encouragement of field staff working within the Council for Mission in Ireland and the Council for Global Mission.
  • To coordinate visits to field staff in situ working within the Council for Mission in Ireland and the Council for Global Mission for their development, encouragement and support, as required.
  • To assist in the promotion of the mission work of the PCI, both in Ireland and globally.
  • To be involved in other aspects of the work of the Council for Mission in Ireland and the Council for Global Mission or other Councils of the General Assembly (including attendance at events), as deemed appropriate to the post.
  • To contribute to the overall organisational effectiveness and to perform any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Secretaries of the Council of Mission in Ireland and the Council of Global Mission in line with the requirements of the General Assembly.
  • The duties of the post may change over time to meet requirements within the Mission Department.

Required Criteria:

  • A third level qualification i.e., a university degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence personal Christian faith in practice and expression, normally demonstrated by active membership of a Christian congregation.
  • A good working knowledge of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, including its structures, theological ethos and missional vision, both in Ireland and globally.
  • A working knowledge of current thinking and practice in Christian mission in Ireland, North and South, and globally.
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Leadership experience within the life of a Christian congregation or organisation.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience of working in a role with a significant human resource and/or member care management brief.
  • Experience of working as part of an effective team in either an employed or voluntary capacity in Ireland or overseas.
  • Experience of recruiting and selecting specialist staff.
  • Experience of enabling the professional development of staff.
  • Experience of participation in and development of networks of practitioners working in similar or related fields.
  • Experience of managing administrative and decision-making processes, including oversight of correspondence, reporting, briefing and evaluation as appropriate to the tasks.
  • Experience of serving in an overseas or cross-cultural context.
  • The ability to work flexible and unsociable hours as necessary and to travel throughout Ireland and overseas.
  • Access to a car for work purposes.
