Hours: 20 hours per week (Shifts: 8am – 1pm or 2pm – 7pm, worked on a rota basis)

Main Function of Job
To work within the Domestic and Laundry Departments, while also working within the Christian ethos of Corkey House.
Background information
The Council for Social Witness (Older People Services) is part of the work and witness of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Its aim is to provide care for older people in a specifically Christian ethos and environment, placing emphasis on offering spiritual support and encouragement to residents, as well as physical care.
Corkey House is one of six homes for older people run by the Council for Social Witness (Older People Services). The Home accommodates 35 residents with a variety of physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs and varying levels of dependency. The Home operates a No Smoking Policy.
About The Role
Domestic duties
- To clean and tidy toilets
- To clean and tidy bathrooms
- To clean and tidy bedrooms
- To clean and tidy corridors
- To clean and tidy sitting rooms
- To clean and tidy offices, treatment rooms etc.
- To follow procedures for the appropriate disposal of waste
- To make beds as required
- To use all equipment according to appropriate instructions
- To maintain dignity, respect and confidentiality as required
- To support care staff in meeting the needs of the residents
- To respect the personal needs and wishes of the residents at all times
- To follow appropriate health and safety procedures
- To maintain written records as required
Laundry duties
- To wash, iron, itemise and distribute residents’ clothes
- To wash and iron all household laundry (e.g., sheets, pillowcases, napkins)
- Minor sewing repairs
- Ensure that all appliances are kept in good order and free from abuse, in compliance with Health and Safety regulations
- To carry out any other reasonable duty such as cleaning duties as required by the management of the Home, necessary for the support and well-being of the residents

Required Criteria
- Evidence of understanding of and respect for the needs of older people
- Awareness of health and safety practices within a working and residential environment
- Willingness to work additional hours to meet the requirements of the Home
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
Desired Criteria
- Experience of working with older people
- Experience of cleaning outside of the domestic setting
