The role of the Relief Care Assistant is to assist the Cook and Assistant Cook in the preparation of nutritional meals to meet the needs of the residents, within the Christian ethos of Trinity House.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Cook/Assistant Cook with food preparation.
  • To take rubbish to bins.
  • To clean and tidy work areas.
  • To clean and tidy kitchen areas including shelves, drawers and cooker.
  • To clean floors, tiles and appliances.
  • To wash dishes.
  • To assist with the preparation of snacks (e.g. tea, sandwiches, suppers).
  • To clean and tidy dining room, setting up tables for meals and trays where appropriate.
  • To arrange for the laundry of cloths, napkins and tea towels.
  • To maintain records as required.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duty as required by the management of the Home, which is necessary for the support and well-being of the residents.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Evidence and understanding of and respect for the needs of older people.
  • Willing to undertake appropriate training (e.g. NVQ) as required.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment.
  • Proficiency in understanding, communicating and writing in English to level required by the duties of the post.
  • Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment).
  • Registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council within 6 months of appointment is a requirement of this position.
  • Willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
