Job Title: Deputy Service Manager

Salary Scale: Deputy Head of Service Scale 3, Points 1-5 (£34,546 – £37,127) per annum Under Review

Hours: 39½ hours per week, worked flexibly, including evening, weekend and on-call working

REQUIREMENTS OF POST

To be responsible, through management and staff leadership, for promoting and ensuring the highest standards of care, in compliance with statutory requirements, to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents within the Christian ethos of PCI. To support the Service Manager in all aspects of the management of the service.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Council for Social Witness (CSW) is part of the work and witness of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and its aim is to provide care for people in a specifically Christian ethos and environment, placing great emphasis on offering spiritual support and encouragement to residents, as well as physical care.

Aaron House is a Residential Care Home for 16 individuals with learning disabilities.

The Home operates a No Smoking Policy.

About The Role

To provide safe, effective and compassionate care, whereby the core values of dignity, respect, choice, consent and inclusion are embedded in daily practice.

To promote and ensure a high standard of care at all times in line with the Christian ethos of the Home, suitable for meeting the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents.

To participate in annual care reviews with the relevant keyworkers and ensure that these are held within the relevant time scale.

To be aware of the legal responsibilities of the role in relation to Residential Care Home Regulations and RQIA Minimum Standards.

To assist in delivering an efficient and effective service within an agreed budget

To act up in the absence of the Service Manager to ensure the smooth running of the service in line with regulatory requirements.

To ensure compliance with all Policies / Procedures ensuring that related procedures are carried out efficiently and effectively.

To ensure that all requirements of the Residential Care Home Regulations and the RQIA Minimum standard are adhered to at all times.

Desired Criteria

  • A recognised professional qualification e.g. RNMH, RGN, RSCN, RMN, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy (or awaiting registration), OR NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care or Management (or an equivalent qualification)
  • Experience of administration, in particular preparing staff rotas and time sheets
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of staff recruitment and selection
  • Access to a car for work purposes
  • Evidence of a personal Christian faith in practice and expression, normally with active membership of a Christian congregation.

Required Criteria

  • A minimum of NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care (or equivalent qualification)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current legal responsibilities of the post and standards for the service, including the need for management and delivery of person-centred services
  • Knowledge of current health and social services available for those with a learning disability
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office and Excel
  • The ability to plan, develop and implement person centred programmes of care
  • A minimum of 3 year’s recent experience working in a residential setting
  • A minimum of 2 year’s recent experience of supervising and managing staff
  • Experience of carrying out Supervisions and Appraisals
  • Experience of ordering, receiving and administering medication
  • Experience of liaising with RQIA
  • Experience in the care of people with a learning disability
  • Experience of managing behaviours which challenge
  • Experience of Quality Assurance Monitoring
  • Must be willing to work within the Christian ethos of PCI
  • Must be available for flexible working including evenings, nights and weekend working
  • Willingness to maintain registration with the appropriate professional regulatory body eg., NISCC or NMC
  • Must be willing to adhere to NISCC Codes of Practice or NMC
