MAIN FUNCTION OF JOB
Contribute to the Christian ministry and mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) through the delivery of the duties outlined. Be an active member of the General Assembly's staff team, contributing to the effective administration of its functions and assisting in the development of strategies and plans for the delivery of its agreed objectives in a manner in keeping with the Christian ethos of PCI. Lead the operational safeguarding function, supporting PCI's work to ensure that the safeguarding of children and adults is at the heart of all that it does.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Lead the development, implementation and review of safeguarding policy, associated procedures and good practice across PCI.
- Ensure robust processes are in place for Access NI and National Vetting Bureau checks for congregations.
- Provide assurance to relevant senior officers that PCI's Safeguarding service is fit for purpose.
- Represent PCI in engagement with relevant regional safeguarding bodies in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
- Act as reporting officer to Social Services, the PSNI and Garda Siochana in relevant situations.
- Ensure appropriate risk assessments are carried out and guidance given to all parties in situations where there may be concerns about individuals attending church.
- Develop and lead a PCI-wide training and awareness-raising strategy.
- Be involved in relevant aspects of the work of Councils of the PCI General Assembly.
Required Criteria
- A professional Social Work qualification AND registered on the appropriate part of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) register, without condition; OR A first level registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register.
- Knowledge of legislation relating to safeguarding in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.
- Minimum of 3 years experience of responding to safeguarding concerns and disclosures.
- Experience of delivering safeguarding training.
- Committed to work within the Christian ethos of PCI.

- Knowledge of PCI structures and congregational life.
- Experience as a voluntary leader within a local church.
