Lead Our Kitchen Team as a Cook Manager

Are you an experienced cook with a passion for preparing nutritious meals in a caring environment? Corkey House is seeking a Cook Manager to lead meal planning and preparation, ensuring residents receive high-quality, nutritious food in line with their dietary needs.

About Us

The Council for Social Witness (Older People Services) is part of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, providing care within a Christian-based ethos. Corkey House is one of 6 homes for older people run by the Council for Social Witness. The purpose-built home accommodates 35 residents who have a variety of physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs and varying levels of dependency. The Home operates a No Smoking Policy.

About The Role

  • Preparing, cooking, and baking meals to meet residents' dietary requirements
  • Managing kitchen stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring food quality standards
  • Preparing snacks such as tea, sandwiches, and suppers
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including floors, work surfaces, shelves, and appliances
  • Washing dishes and ensuring proper waste disposal
  • Leading kitchen operations and supporting the catering team
  • Attending staff meetings and training sessions
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties to support residents' well-being

This role involves some physical work, including moving kitchen equipment and furniture.

Required Criteria

  • Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people
  • Awareness of health and safety practices within a catering and residential environment
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Experience of catering outside a domestic setting
  • Willingness to work additional hours to meet the requirements of the Home
  • Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland

Desired Criteria

  • Experience of working with older people
  • NVQ2 in Food Preparation & Cooking (or equivalent qualification)
