As a Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering effective maintenance and engineering support throughout your shift. Your responsibilities will include responding promptly to both electrical and mechanical breakdowns, carrying out planned preventative maintenance activities, and ensuring all departmental processes and standards are consistently followed. You will contribute directly to achieving operational KPIs by maintaining equipment performance, minimising downtime, and upholding full compliance with all Company Policies and Procedures.
Main Duties
- Strict adherence to all H&S work policies e.g. Lock out and Tag out (Isolation of all energy sources when undertaking any work) and Use of the Permit to Work/Enter system.
- Personally demonstrate safe behaviour support in the management of health & safety of engineering staff and contractors.
- Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents and near misses.
- Able to understand and implement Good Manufacturing Practice.
- Inherent understanding of site hygiene, technical, QA and Health & Safety requirements.
- Ensure “good manufacturing practice” (GMP) is followed at all times (Clean as you go, SOP adherence etc.).
- Carry out routine scheduled servicing and maintenance on food manufacturing, ancillary and associated equipment.
- Attend electrical and mechanical machine and equipment breakdowns in a timely manner and apply sound engineering principles to diagnose and repair.
- Apply and lead root cause analysis principles to identify and subsequently rectify issues to deliver continual improvement.
- Maintain good maintenance record keeping as required.
- Support the Production Teams at all levels to drive continuous improvement and reduce downtime.
- Support both the Engineering Shift Managers and Maintenance Planner in selecting correct spare parts and maintaining stock levels.
- Attend training courses (internal and external) as required by Prepworld to build personal and Engineering Department capabilities.
- Assist in training/mentoring other members of the Engineering Team or other Departments if required to do so.
- Participate in Capital and improvement Projects as required.
- Support the Facilities Management Department as required.
- The role involves manual handling and the ability to withstand working in cold storage conditions on a daily basis.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain and promote health and safety at work best practices to achieve zero lost hours within the Engineering Department due to injury.
- 100% completion of all scheduled maintenance tasks duly issued.
- Respond to all breakdown requests in a timely manner.
- Escalation of any major issues preventing prompt problem resolution in a timely manner.
Skill Requirements
Essential
- Recognised electrical apprenticeship (minimum) and a high level mechanical skills.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and can do attitude.
- A positive attitude, open to change, a proactive approach and a passionate attitude to success.
- A positive and flexible approach to on‑going training.
- A self‑motivated individual with adherence to high standards and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Electrical HNC minimum preferred.
- Experience of PLC and machine control systems.
- Knowledge and experience of multi‑head weighing and filling equipment.
- HACCP Experience and/or formal training.
- Food Industry or FMCG experience.
- High Care working.
- An excellent time manager with an adaptable and flexible approach.
- Able to understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practice.
This role operates on a 4‑days‑on, 4‑days‑off shift pattern.
