The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for assuring that the business is fully compliant with all Health and Safety standards. To ensure that at all times we meet our legal responsibilities regarding H&S and to drive a positive Health and Safety Culture and to always ensure the business is audit ready.
To manage internal teams and external providers to ensure the PrepWorld site and associated systems, processes and practices are maintained at all times to a high standard. Ensure high standards of staff welfare and safety are delivered. Manage the H&S department within the agreed budget.
To identify all compliance gaps through audits and observations and to ensure proposals to remedy them are clear, concise and achievable in the appropriate timescale. Lead H&S strategy in line with business demands. Ownership of the relevant sections of the business Crisis Management plan and to ensure that these are updated and reviewed on a regular basis to remain relevant and current.
Main DutiesSite Health & Safety:
- To lead from the front in developing a health and safety culture that all colleagues are positively engaged.
- To challenge existing practices and procedures in a positive and constructive manner to be clear on understanding and to ensure the appropriate changes are made.
- To be approachable, pragmatic and calm and able to communicate with all levels of the business.
- To organise, or provide suitable training and instruction to all levels of the business with regard to H&S essentials.
- Ensure Prepworld maintains compliance with all legislation relevant to safe and healthy working.
- Ensure that relevant records are always audit ready and assist with internal/external audits as required.
- Safeguard the Health, Safety and Welfare of Prepworld staff and visitors to the company.
- Be the gate keeper for safety on all new equipment introductions to site and be confident that assessments are in place prior to commissioning.
- Maintain RA & PUWER assessment delivery and reviews with the relevant departmental stakeholders and highlight all gaps in a timely manner to achieve compliance.
- Liaison with enforcement agencies with relation to any Health and Safety concerns.
- Lead regular meetings to update on the company Health and Safety performance.
- With business partners lead area improvement initiatives on accident trends / hot spots.
- Provide the business with current and up to date advice and information.
- Support the projects team with all intel, reasoning and justification to deliver successful business cases.
Site Security / Evacuation:
- To ensure that the physical security of the site and workers on site is always maintained.
- To ensure that we regularly carry out Fire Drills and have suitably trained managers and teams to respond appropriately in the event of a real incident.
- To ensure that adequate emergency cover is always provided by our chosen contractors and that suitably qualified operatives are available when required.
- To be available for advice and support in the event of an out of hours event.
Welfare and Community:
- Build positive connections with our neighbours and local community.
First-rate stakeholder management is fundamental to the success of all projects/workstreams. Your key relationships will be with the whole business regarding Health & Safety management. Produce monthly reports for the Head of Production/SLT on KPIs/incidents/legal, best practice changes.
Key Accountabilities- Compliance with externally certified standards (BRC, ISO, COP's).
- Zero Red non-conformities from Group Health and Safety Audits.
- Compliance in all site audits from Customers and Ethical from a Health and Safety perspective.
- Ensure all site relevant Risk Assessments are suitable and sufficient and up to date.
- Ensure all equipment meets PUWER requirements.
- Monitor, record and manage the site's accident frequency rate (AFR).
- Strong knowledge of Environmental and Health and Safety regulatory and legal framework.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Ability to foresee the possibility of risks occurring before they happen.
- Have a working knowledge of site services.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to build professional working relationships both within the organisation and with external agencies/suppliers/contractors.
- Strong analytic skills – ability to present data suitable for intended audience.
- National Examining Body of Safety Health (NEBOSH) recognised qualification (or equivalent).
- ISO 45001 experience & lead auditor qualification (BRC or ISO).
- Extensive experience of creating a positive H&S culture in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience of facilities management within a manufacturing environment. (desirable)
- Working knowledge of BRC, ISO45001, SMETA/SEDEX and COP's.
- Experience of leading and developing teams.
- Food Manufacturing experience (desirable).
