As a category‑defining company, we’re shaping what the future of learning looks like at global scale. Every Preply lesson sparks change, fuels ambition, and drives progress that matters. Joining Preply means helping define the future of education at global scale, and building something that truly matters for millions of people, every day.

About the role: This is a pivotal product role at Preply. You will own the AI Marketplace squad, with the mission of bringing machine learning intelligence across the entire marketplace. Our ambition is bold: within the next year, we want machine learning to power most of the marketplace experience. Preply sits at the intersection of some of the most interesting machine learning problems you can work on. You are connecting learners with tutors across 90+ languages, where the context is deeply personal and the signals that matter span performance, behavior, personality, language, culture, and learning history. These are genuinely hard problems to solve. We’re looking for someone who has owned capabilities of similar complexity and breadth before — and who can build the center of excellence that helps crack them, set the bar for what great looks like, and elevate the rest of the organization alongside it.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Own the ML product portfolio: Define which ML capabilities get built, at what depth, and in what sequence. The ambition is for ML to power most of the marketplace experience. Getting there requires a clear portfolio strategy, navigating trade‑offs, and ability to influence across teams and functions.
  • Make ranking world‑class: Preply sits on an exceptionally rich dataset. You will turn this into a world‑class ranking system, one that is intelligent, personalized, and keeps getting better.
  • Own vision and business outcomes: You are accountable for the team's results. You set the direction, define what success looks like, and ensure the work drives results in close partnership with a highly technical team.
  • Make ML a trusted capability across Preply: This role sits at the intersection of the AI Marketplace squad and the wider product organization, helping ensure ML capabilities are applied where they can create the most value, while enabling strong feedback loops that continuously improve the models.
  • Bring the user into every strategic decision: Deep understanding of what learners and tutors actually need is what separates good from great. You will own that perspective and make sure it shapes the portfolio from the top down, not just at the feature level.
  • Partner deeply with Data and Engineering: The applied AI scientists and engineers on the team are deep experts in their fields. Success in this role comes from building strong partnerships, shaping the vision together, aligning on outcomes, and collaborating closely throughout execution.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Strategy and vision: You have experience setting a clear multi‑quarter direction for a highly technical domain, navigating complex prioritization trade‑offs, and aligning teams and stakeholders around meaningful outcomes.
  • Machine learning experience at large scale: You’ve built ML‑powered products that drove meaningful user or business outcomes, ideally in areas such as personalization, recommendations, retrieval, or ranking systems.
  • Machine learning fluency and ability to work with technical teams: You can speak the language of a highly technical team, understand the trade‑offs, push back when needed, and make prioritization calls that require that depth. You know how to build trust, focus energy on the right problems, and create the conditions for maximizing business value.
  • Learner and tutor empathy: You are genuinely curious about the people on both sides of the marketplace, and you bring that into how you prioritize.
  • Data fluency: You are comfortable working directly with data to identify patterns, uncover insights, and build informed points of view in partnership with analytics and technical teams.
  • Organizational influence: You have shaped how organizations think about complex technical domains, aligned stakeholders around key trade‑offs, and built trust in ML capabilities across teams and leadership.
  • Executive communication: You can take complex, ambiguous work and distill it into a clear point of view that drives leadership‑level decisions.
  • Experimentation rigor: Solid grounding in A/B testing, experiment design, and interpreting results with rigor and nuance.

Why You’ll Love It at Preply:
