You will be based remotely (at home) with the ability to cover the relevant region for field-based work. Residence in or near the region identified, the ability to drive and a valid driving licence are essential for this role. The suitable candidate for this role must be able to travel and stay overnight on occasion to attend meetings.

Job summary: NAHT is looking for an experienced trade union organiser who is able to help drive our organising and campaigns priorities in England helping to strengthen our collective voice in line with Unions national strategic aims. Reporting to the Regional Head, this role will support the delivery of NAHT’s organising and campaigns strategy ensuring the strategic direction of NAHT is successfully implemented in the branches and regions. Working with teams across the association, the role supports the recruitment and retention of members with the aim of developing local branches. You will contribute to the design and delivery of the national training programme for officials in areas such as organising, campaigning and member representation. By carrying out membership mapping, the role shapes local organising and campaign plans, identifying and supporting activists to strengthen branches. This extends into supporting the delivery of local and national campaigns. A key part of this role involves undertaking casework in line with NAHT’s representation guide, ensuring members receive accurate, timely and effective support. You will advise members on settlement agreements, guiding them through the process and administering fees. You will develop relationships with stakeholders and local media (under the direction of the National Assistant General Secretary and Press Team) to support campaign work. You will provide administrative, IT and communications systems support to our local officials alongside cover for branch officials at JNC’s when required.

Person specification: We are looking for a dynamic individual with demonstrable experience of working to an organising approach aimed at developing branches, underpinned by a solid understanding of working within a membership environment. Experience of using a range of recruitment methods to attract and engage members is essential. You will have prior experience of supporting members through casework, including advising on settlement agreements, requiring a strong knowledge of current developments in employment and education law. Essential experience includes delivering training for activists across different formats such as in person or online and campaigning and communicating confidently both in writing and in person. The role also requires strong skills in drafting reports, producing campaign plans, analysing and presenting data, and proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite. You must be flexible, able to travel and stay away overnight as required.
