Operations & Commercial Assistant Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire Salary: Competitive, depending on experience Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established, family-run construction and fit-out business with over 50 years of experience delivering high-quality commercial and workplace projects. They are looking to appoint an experienced Operations & Commercial Assistant to join their team, supporting the delivery and commercial management of live CAT A and CAT B fit-out projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 4–5 years' experience within commercial fit-out, who is looking for a varied role working closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, suppliers and the wider Operations team. The Role: Working as part of the Operations team, you will provide both commercial and operational support across live projects, helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially and to a high standard. Responsibilities will include: * Supporting Project Managers with the day-to-day running of live projects * Assisting with project budgets, cost control and forecasting * Monitoring project costs and identifying commercial variances * Managing subcontractor and supplier procurement * Preparing RFQs, reviewing quotations and assisting with negotiations * Raising and managing subcontractor orders * Assisting with valuations, payments, variations and final accounts * Maintaining accurate project and commercial records * Monitoring project progress and supporting reporting * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities * Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and clients where required * Using project management and commercial systems, including Procore The successful candidate will have: * Around 4–5 years' experience within commercial fit-out * Strong experience across CAT A and/or CAT B fit-out projects * Experience in a commercial, operations or project support role * A good understanding of construction commercial processes * Experience dealing with subcontractors and suppliers * Strong numerical, organisational and analytical skills * Excellent attention to detail * Good communication and interpersonal skills * The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities * A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work in a fast-paced project environment * A relevant Quantity Surveying, Construction or Commercial qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential.
