We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical estimator to join our team working for a growing fit out sub-contractor based in Berkshire. The Estimator will play a crucial role in assessing project costs and ensuring that all financial aspects of projects are accurately calculated and controlled. This position requires someone with an enthusiastic and committed attitude with strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to deliver precise estimates that align with project goals. Previous experience in estimating in glass partitions / doors / drywall / suspended ceilings.

My client are a fast growing interior fit out contractor, operating in London and the Home Counties. Operating since the early 2000's, they have grown year on year in turnover attracting repeat business and new clients alike. They have developed their own glass and drywall partitioning systems, which are installed alongside proprietary ceiling and drywall systems. They also specialise in high quality joinery door sets and ironmongery. They have built a firm client base with many well-known main contractors within the commercial fit-out sector.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects by analysing drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
  • Conduct thorough market research to determine material and labour costs, ensuring competitive pricing.
  • Monitor project budgets and implement cost control measures to maintain financial efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and evaluate subcontractor bids, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all estimates, adjustments, and changes throughout the project duration.
  • Building relationships and communicating effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams regarding estimates and project requirements.
  • Participate in pre-construction handover meetings and post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement in estimating processes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Estimator or in a similar role within the commercial fit out sector is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost control principles and practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in using estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) with the ability to interpret specifications and measure drawings.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
