About the Role

Brixton House is looking for a Head of Marketing, Communications and Audience Development to turn our brand, audience and impact priorities into campaigns that grow attendance, engagement and income. You will report to the Strategic Lead (Brand, Audience and Impact) and lead a team that includes the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, the Box Office and Audience Insights Manager and designated campaign leads. You will also manage the department’s planning, performance and budgets.

About Brixton House

Brixton House is a community hub and cultural space, built on the history of Ovalhouse Theatre. We empower undervalued, unheard and excluded communities through our creative spaces, and we present voices that are often marginalised in mainstream funded culture. Our values are to be welcoming to our international community, radical and progressive, collaborative, and proud of our unique identity and growing achievements.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the department. You will set priorities, allocate resources and resolve competing demands across arts, commercial and development campaigns. You will line manage the campaign leads, set their objectives, support their development and hold them accountable for quality, budgets and results. You will also deputise for the Strategic Lead on agreed matters.
  • Deliver campaigns and season on-sales. You will own the campaign portfolio, including our flagship campaigns, and make sure each one meets its attendance and income targets. You will set season on-sale priorities and milestones with the Box Office and Artistic teams, and sign off briefs, media plans and spend within your authority. You will review sales regularly with the campaign leads and the Box Office and Audience Insights Manager, and change investment, messaging, discounts or channels when needed. You will also lead marketing for visiting companies, co-productions and touring.
  • Grow and understand our audiences. You will deliver our audience development strategy, with measurable campaigns to win new audiences, bring people back and encourage advance booking, while protecting ticket yield. You will use audience data and research to guide decisions and measure return on investment, and work with Creative and Civic Engagement to reach new and local audiences. You will also improve the customer journey, from discovery to booking and after the visit, working with Box Office and Front of House. You will make sure impact evidence is used accurately in campaigns and reports.
  • Lead communications, brand and digital. As brand champion, you will apply our identity and tone across every channel and drive an integrated editorial schedule. You will oversee the website, CRM email, social channels and content, and deliver digital marketing plans within our agreed strategies. You will manage our PR agency day to day, coordinate press nights and launches, commission imagery and assets, and prepare crisis communications, escalating sensitive issues to the Strategic Lead.
  • Build income and manage budgets. You will plan campaigns for hires, café and bar activity, House Lates, fundraising appeals and sponsorship alongside the arts programme, and flag sponsorship opportunities to the Strategic Lead. You will manage delegated budgets and ticket income projections with Producing and Finance, and report regularly to the Strategic Lead on sales, audiences, spend and risks.

What You’ll Bring

  • Senior marketing experience, ideally in an arts or cultural organisation, delivering integrated campaigns that meet audience and income goals
  • Experience line managing and developing a team across a busy portfolio
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasting spend and assessing return on investment
  • Strong digital marketing, CRM and audience segmentation skills, and the ability to turn sales and audience data into campaign decisions
  • Creative judgement and experience briefing designers, artists, producers, agencies and suppliers
  • Experience coordinating PR, content and communications, with sound judgement on approvals and escalation
  • Excellent writing, editing and stakeholder management, with strong organisation and attention to detail
  • The ability to turn strategy into practical plans and make realistic resource decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • A commitment to inclusive cultural participation, accessible communications and our values

Desirable

  • Experience in a producing theatre, multidisciplinary venue or similar organisation
  • Experience of season launches, commercial marketing or fundraising campaigns
  • Familiarity with Spektrix, Dotdigital, Asana and Canva
  • Knowledge of Brixton and South London’s communities and cultural networks
