Our client is part of a group that has been established for almost 200 years and employs more than 5,500 staff globally, specialising in a range of bespoke heavier engineering and materials handling activities for a diverse range of applications. Due to the approaching retirement of a long-established and valued member of the team, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and self-motivated Engineering Manager to be based out of their prestigious Leeds Office environment and covering other depots and offices as required.
Reporting to the Director of the business, core duties for this varied and challenging senior role will include (but not be limited to):
- Providing a high-quality engineering service to the business/division to meet the needs of the business unit’s ongoing and future business, ensuring the implementation and sustainment of best engineering practices across all areas.
- Overseeing the product improvement and new product development business engineering strategy.
- Managing business unit-owned specialist applications engineers, engineers from the pooled generic engineering resource and contract staff to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources to ensure that project schedules are met and are on time/in budget.
- Working in collaboration with the marketing function, managing the process of continuous product improvement with respect to cost, delivery time, product performance, etc. and new product development.
- Ensuring appropriate engineering involvement in the business-winning projects teams for proposal preparation and sales.
- Preparing the business unit engineering strategy and contributing to the formulation of the overall Group engineering strategy.
- Preparing and implementing plans for engineering skills development, contract staff utilisation, the allocation of staff to projects and for personnel development and recruitment.
- Championing communication between the engineering department and other functional departments, attending inter-company and customer sites as required (so a valid UK driving licence is essential for the position).
To be considered for this genuinely exceptional opportunity, it is envisaged the successful candidate will be qualified to at least Degree level or above in a relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline and ideally hold (or be working towards) Chartered status and hold membership of relevant professional bodies.
Essentially you will demonstrate proven engineering management experience, preferably gained within a mechanical handling environment, with significant mechanical engineering design experience and effective communication and influencing skills at all levels.
