We are seeking a reliable and proactive Vehicle Rental Assistant to support the daily operations of our vehicle rental business. This hybrid role combines customer service, vehicle transportation, and fleet cleaning responsibilities. The successful candidate will help maintain high vehicle presentation standards, ensure timely vehicle movements, and provide excellent service to customers. Other duties may be required of the post holder in addition to those listed below, to ensure that the requirements of the business are met at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Preparation & Cleaning
    • Clean and valet rental vehicles to company standards, including interior and exterior cleaning.
    • Inspect vehicles for damage, cleanliness, fuel levels, and maintenance issues.
    • Ensure vehicles are ready for customer collection on schedule.
    • Report defects, warning lights, or mechanical concerns promptly.
  • Driver & Vehicle Logistics
    • Deliver and collect rental vehicles from customers across the Isle of Wight.
    • Conduct vehicle handovers and basic customer walkthroughs.
    • Maintain accurate delivery and collection records.
    • Ensure safe and lawful driving at all times.
  • Rental Operations Support
    • Assist customers with bookings, paperwork, and rental queries.
    • Support check-in/check-out procedures.
    • Help manage vehicle availability and parking organization.
    • Use company systems/apps to update vehicle status and job progress.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide professional and friendly service at all times.
    • Handle customer concerns calmly and efficiently.
    • Represent the company positively during off-site collections and deliveries.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Special Requirements

  • Previous experience in vehicle rental, logistics, delivery driving, or car valeting.
  • Familiarity with vehicle inspection procedures.
  • Customer-facing experience.
  • Full valid clean driving licence.
  • Comfortable driving various vehicle types and sizes.
  • Good attention to detail and cleanliness standards.
  • Strong punctuality and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic IT/smartphone skills.
  • Physically capable of vehicle cleaning and movement tasks.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm, i.e. 40 hours per week, 1 hour lunch break (unpaid). One in three Saturdays of the month, September to May, 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, June to August, 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.
