Overview

My client is seeking an Automation Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of automation systems across process and utility environments within a regulated pharmaceutical setting. The role will focus on Emerson DeltaV systems, supporting configuration, integration, and lifecycle delivery of control systems, while ensuring compliance with GMP and data integrity standards. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and review key automation documentation, support testing activities, and contribute to system design, integration, and commissioning.

The Automation Engineer role will involve:

  • Contributing to the design and development of automation solutions for process and utility systems
  • Programming and configuring Emerson DeltaV systems, including batch logic, modules, and phases
  • Producing and reviewing key automation documentation such as FDS, DDS, and control strategies
  • Supporting the integration of BMS and process control systems within a wider site architecture
  • Collaborating with process, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure seamless system delivery
  • Assisting with FAT activities and coordinating with vendors and project stakeholders
  • Ensuring automation activities meet GMP expectations and data integrity standards (e.g. ALCOA+)
  • Taking part in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessment workshops
  • Managing updates to design documentation through change control processes
  • Supporting commissioning, handover, and CQV preparation activities

The Automation Engineer will need to have the following attributes:

  • Degree qualified in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong experience in automation engineering within pharmaceutical or life sciences environments
  • Hands-on expertise with Emerson DeltaV systems
  • Good understanding of automation design, configuration, and system integration principles
  • Experience working with GMP-regulated environments and associated compliance requirements
  • Ability to interpret and produce key automation documentation (FDS, DDS, control philosophies)
  • Familiarity with BMS and utility automation systems
  • Strong awareness of data integrity standards (e.g. ALCOA+) and regulatory expectations
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital projects or greenfield facility builds (desirable)
