My client designs and manufactures bespoke machinery. They are looking for a Design Manager with strong leadership experience to join their team in the Hampshire area on a permanent basis.
The Mechanical Design Manager will ideally have the following attributes:
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design / New Product Development position
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing people or having direct reports
- Excellent practical skills – hand calculations, verification, validation, FEA, testing, prototyping
- Strong 3D CAD skills – ideally SolidWorks or Inventor
- Hands-on industry experience ideally working in a similar design role within a machine shop / workshop / manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of machinery operations and electrical/electronic products
- Degree / ONC / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified or similar in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Experienced designing products from concept to production
- Able to manage projects and work to deadlines and budgets
- Able to maintain technical documentation and BOM entry
- Innovative, accurate and passionate about design
- Be technically minded with a head for problem solving
- Excellent leadership and organisational skills
- Able to work well individually as well as part of a team
The Mechanical Design Manager role will involve:
- Managing a cross-functional team of Design and Manufacturing Engineers, and guiding/mentoring those less experienced
- Being responsible for the Design and Development of various products
- Providing technical guidance and support
- Using SolidWorks software for design on a day-to-day basis
- Being responsible for research, hand calculations, FEA, testing and prototyping
- Managing the full product lifecycle from concept to production
- Creating models/prototypes
- Liaising with clients and developing solutions for design specifications
- Collaborating with different departments to ensure the smooth delivery of projects
- Maintaining technical drawings and documentation
- Providing technical guidance and support
- Supporting product Testing, Verification & Validation
- Supporting more junior members of the team
