Location – London

Premier Engineering is working with an innovative materials and technology company based in London. They are looking to recruit a Materials Chemist to join their R&D team to support the development of new materials and chemical formulations for advanced applications.

The Materials Chemist will ideally have the following attributes:

  • A degree (PhD/MSc/BSc) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a similar role
  • Strong experience working in a wet chemistry lab, with a good understanding of lab safety and process control
  • Strong knowledge of inorganic chemistry
  • Knowledge of polymer science, formulation chemistry, or composite materials
  • Hands-on experience with lab-scale synthesis and analytical techniques (e.g. DSC, TGA, SEM, FTIR)
  • Familiarity with testing and characterisation of polymers and chemical materials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to take a leadership role and motivate others
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be able to work well individually as well as part of a team

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and testing new material formulations
  • Conducting chemical and physical analyses on raw materials and finished products
  • Preparing reports and technical documentation on material properties and performance
  • Supporting scale-up and transfer of formulations from R&D to production
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and engineering
  • Being the main POC for technical support on R&D
  • Liaising with other departments to manage such projects
  • Running trials and experiments
  • Guiding more junior members of the team
  • Maintaining technical documentation as required
  • Keeping up to date with reports and developments in inorganic chemistry
  • Ensuring quality and H&S standards are met
  • Pushing for constant progression in the R&D department for product development and manufacturing techniques
