We are recruiting on behalf of a leading precision metal pressings manufacturer based in Worcestershire. Supplying high-quality pressed and stamped metal components to a range of industries, our client is seeking an experienced Production Area Supervisor to lead a busy press shop team and support continued business growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on production professional with supervisory experience within metal pressing, stamping, engineering, or manufacturing environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily production activities, ensuring safety, quality, and output targets are consistently achieved while developing and supporting a team of operators and setters.

The Role

As Production Area Supervisor, you will take ownership of a designated production area, coordinating people, machinery, tooling, and resources to ensure smooth and efficient operations. You will work closely with Production, Quality, Tooling, Engineering, and Planning teams to maintain production schedules and continuously improve performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, motivate and support production operators and setters within the press shop.
    • Organise workloads and allocate resources to meet production demands.
    • Conduct daily production briefings and communicate priorities effectively.
    • Monitor attendance, performance and training requirements.
    • Mentor team members and support skills development across the department.
    • Foster a positive, accountable and safety-focused working culture.
  • Production & Operational Performance
    • Ensure production schedules are delivered safely, efficiently and on time.
    • Coordinate tooling changes, machine setups and production changeovers.
    • Monitor key performance indicators including output, downtime, efficiency and scrap levels.
    • Investigate production issues and implement corrective actions to minimise disruption.
    • Work collaboratively with maintenance and tooling departments to maximise machine availability.
    • Support the achievement of productivity and operational improvement targets.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Ensure components are manufactured to customer specifications and quality standards.
    • Support first-off inspections and in-process quality checks.
    • Work with the Quality team to identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain compliance with company procedures, customer requirements and industry standards.
    • Promote a right-first-time manufacturing culture.
  • Health & Safety
    • Lead by example in maintaining a safe working environment.
    • Ensure machinery is operated in accordance with safety procedures and company policies.
    • Conduct routine safety checks and encourage reporting of hazards and near misses.
    • Support accident investigations and implementation of preventative measures.
    • Promote excellent housekeeping standards throughout the production area.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Drive improvements in efficiency, quality and productivity.
    • Support lean manufacturing and waste reduction initiatives.
    • Encourage employee involvement in process improvement activities.
    • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, machine utilisation and production performance.

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential
    • Previous experience in a Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor or Team Leader role.
    • Background within metal pressing, metal stamping, precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.
    • Strong understanding of production processes, tooling changeovers and manufacturing operations.
    • Experience managing and developing production teams.
    • Ability to monitor and improve operational performance.
    • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
    • Good IT skills and experience using production management systems.
  • Desirable
    • Experience working within a press shop environment.
    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing methodologies.
    • Mechanical or engineering qualifications.
    • Experience working within quality-accredited manufacturing environments.
    • IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
