Premier Education Ltd are currently working in partnership with a primary school in Chester who are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a child with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a primary school setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing consistent, nurturing support to help the pupil feel safe, regulated and able to engage positively with learning.

Due to the nature of the role, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience supporting children with complex SEN, and trauma-informed practice or experience working with children who have experienced trauma would be highly desirable.

The school is looking for someone who is calm, resilient, patient and confident building strong relationships with pupils who may present with emotional dysregulation, attachment needs and challenging behaviour.

Responsibilities

Provide dedicated support for a pupil with complex SEMH needs

Build a positive, trusting and consistent relationship with the child

Support emotional regulation using appropriate behaviour and de-escalation strategies

Assist the pupil in accessing classroom learning and daily school routines

Adapt activities to meet the child's individual learning and emotional needs

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral team

Promote confidence, independence and positive engagement throughout the school day

Help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment

Requirements

Previous experience working with children with SEMH and complex SEN

Experience using trauma-informed approaches is highly desirable

Understanding of attachment, emotional dysregulation and behaviour support strategies

A calm, patient and resilient approach

Strong communication and relationship‑building skills

Experience within a primary school, SEN provision or alternative provision is desirable

Ability to provide two references covering the last two years of employment history

An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one

Pay

£92 - £110 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
