Role Purpose

As the Community and Outreach Manager, you will provide strategic leadership to Saint Paul’s social transformation initiatives, driving key programmes, building partnerships, and cultivating a vibrant volunteer culture. Your role will focus on operational support for our core community ministries, safeguarding responsibilities, grant writing and reporting, and volunteer management. You will ensure Saint Paul’s impact is both sustainable and responsive to community needs.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership and Operational Support

  • CafĂ© Concerts : Lead the CafĂ© Concerts programme, which hosts 60-70 attendees from diverse backgrounds.

  • Community Hub : Manage the operational needs of the Community Hub, offering meals, activities, and companionship to those experiencing loneliness, including local asylum seekers.

  • Love Christmas Project : Coordinate the annual Love Christmas outreach, including volunteer management, fundraising, and logistics to distribute care packages to the community.

  • Local Partnerships & Charity Engagement : Build and maintain strong partnerships with key local organisations, including St Vincent’s Care Home, Abercorn House, and St Paul’s Primary School, while serving as a key supporter and ambassador for our charity partners Spear and Crosslight, ensuring collaboration, visibility, and shared impact across the community.

Safeguarding and Crisis Support

  • Administrating our volunteer Safer Recruitment and DBS processes and working with our Safeguarding Officer to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.

  • Coordinating the Saint Paul’s Safeguarding Team to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

  • Managing the safeguarding phone and liaising with the safeguarding lead and pastoral team to support individuals in crisis by connecting them with the appropriate resources and guiding them towards programmes addressing root causes.

Grant Management and Reporting

  • Manage all aspects of grant processes, from identifying funding opportunities to writing applications and maintaining accurate records.

  • Measure and report on the impact of Saint Paul’s outreach, and providing insights for the Senior Leadership Team, PCC, and funders.

Volunteer Development and Partnership Building

  • Recruit, train, and support a dedicated volunteer team, building a strong culture of service and engagement.

  • Foster and maintain relationships with partner charities, including Spear, Crosslight and Saint Paul’s Primary School ensuring our continued support of their work in alignment with Saint Paul’s vision and mission.

  • Foster Local Unity & Collaboration: Strengthen relationships with other local churches, public sector groups, and community stakeholders to foster unity, deepen collaboration, and shape a shared vision for social transformation in Hammersmith and beyond.

Perform any other duties as reasonably required to support the team and the organisation\’s objectives.

Essential Skills and Experience

We are looking for a strategic and passionate leader with a heart for community transformation and strong operational skills. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Safeguarding Expertise: Knowledge of safeguarding practices and a commitment to safe environments.

  • Programme and Grant Management: Experience in coordinating outreach programmes and securing/managing grants, particularly within the non-profit sector.

  • Strategic Acumen: Strong skills in planning, budgeting, and implementing strategies for social change.

  • Volunteer and Team Leadership: Proven ability to build, empower, and lead diverse volunteer teams and stakeholders.

  • Partnership Development: Success in building relationships with charities, public bodies, and community stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving and Change Leadership: Expertise in navigating cultural or operational shifts and tackling complex challenges with a solution-focused mindset.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication with a personable, adaptable, and professional approach.

  • Commitment to St. Paul’s Vision: Alignment with the church’s mission and values, with active engagement in its life.

  • Proficiency in IT and MS Office.

  • Strong attention to detail and multitasking ability.

  • Conflict resolution skills for handling challenging situations.

Working Requirements

  • Proof of right to work in the UK

  • Work schedule : 5 days per week (Sunday to Thursday), with some evening and Saturday work (TOIL given)

    • Community Hub work required once a month on Saturdays

    • Hours : 9:30 am – 5:30 pm (flexibility required)

  • Attendance at Tuesday morning staff meetings

Key Church Services and Events

  • Key annual church events: Annual Parochial Church Meeting, Church Weekend, and select evening events

  • Easter and Christmas services

  • Staff events, including an annual retreat (typically 1 week in January)

Package

  • Salary : ÂŁ27,000 – ÂŁ30,000 FTE, depending on experience

  • Holiday : 25 days FTE plus bank holidays and your birthday as an additional vacation day.

  • TOIL : A generous toil allowance.

  • Benefits : Employer pension contribution, annual offsite staff retreat, ongoing training, and development opportunities
