We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Vehicle Development Engineer - Wheels, Tyres & Brakes to join our Global Motorcycle Organisation. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge motorcycle projects, from concept through to production, ensuring the highest standards of performance, safety, and quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Industrial Design, Product Development, and Genuine Motorcycle Accessories, while primarily supporting the Vehicle Development Engineering Team.
Responsibilities
- Develop suspension, tyres, chassis geometry, braking systems, and ergonomics for new and updated chassis projects, balancing function, cost, and product requirements.
- Produce high-quality inspection data and 2D inspection drawings.
- Develop and maintain development and test procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with internal departments such as Product Strategy, Industrial Design, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly, as well as external suppliers.
- Create and manage timing plans for areas of responsibility, ensuring timely project delivery.
- Mentor and support the training and development of junior engineers within the team.
- Represent the development team in interdepartmental meetings when required.
- Plan and conduct UK and overseas tests, managing teams of riders, technicians, engineers, and external contractors during development activities.
Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in engineering design and chassis setup of motorcycles.
- Strong knowledge of suspension systems, tyres, wheels, braking systems, and motorcycle geometry.
- Practical experience in vehicle maintenance and preparation, including suspension unit service and maintenance, is advantageous.
- Experience in chassis development testing.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD design (knowledge of CREO is advantageous).
- Proficiency in producing 2D inspection drawings and using 3D measuring systems.
- Literate in Google Suite/MS Office software.
- Understanding of PLM systems is preferred.
Day-to-Day
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project requirements are met.
- Conduct development tests and produce supporting documentation.
- Manage your workload effectively and create detailed timing plans.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
- Represent the team in meetings and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Plan and oversee testing activities both in the UK and overseas.
