Supplier Materials Quality Engineer – Team Leader
Safety in the sky delivered by you. As a leader within our Quality Team, reporting to the Supplier Quality, Industrial and Flow Manager, you will be required to:
- Lead and develop the materials SQA team to ensure the objectives below are fulfilled
- Support Safran globally in the development, qualification and auditing of existing and new raw material suppliers, forgers and casting companies both in the UK and overseas working in line with Safran group requirements
- Support Safran globally in the development of UK and Asian material SQA working in line with Safran group requirements with a view to long term delegation
- Liaise closely with the Materials and Process Laboratory and the Material Validation Board (MVB) to recommend and qualify new material sources, manufacturing routes and introduction of new materials in line with the Safran Group processes and procedures
- Promote a methodology within the Safran group for the construction and adherence to a ‘3-year rolling audit plan ensuring all Critical suppliers are audited and all material routes are validated
- Undertake the role of site focal point for material and processing related issues and support and deliver any new initiatives generated from the MVB
- Provide the necessary information to maintain and update the DK6000 database for qualification/documentation and DVI requirements and status
- Collect mechanical and chemical materials data from suppliers on a regular basis and use this data effectively to plot statistical conformity, identify ‘trends\’ and monitor supplier performance
- Utilise the knowledge from the supply base to recommend improvements and best practices within the Safran supply chain
- Solve technical problems quickly, identifying Root Causes and ensure timely closure of Corrective and Preventative actions
- Liaise with suppliers on manufacturing and processing problems related to materials in order for them to comply with the Safran group requirements
- Undertake the required training to stay aligned with current and future material and processing technologies
- Work closely with the Materials and Process laboratory to carry out root cause analysis of material related problems, this includes material cut up requirements and technical events
- Understand and be willing to train and develop Suppliers in FMEA, Statistical Methods, Problem Solving using the 8D approach and other Quality tools to drive Continuous Improvement and to fulfil the DVI requirements imposed by Safran
- Understand fully the FAI/DVI process to the Safran Group Standard and be able to participate in such reviews at the supplier\’s premises before forging or casting component despatch

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a degree, HNC or equivalent and thorough knowledge of Materials Manufacture, Forging and Casting Processes. Applicants must be experienced Auditors, preferably at Lead Assessor level, computer literate and have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. A full driving licence, current passport and willingness to travel overseas are required.
