A highly regarded civil engineering contractor specialising in infrastructure, energy and utility projects across the UK. With a growing pipeline of National Grid and NPG substation works, they are looking to appoint a strong Site Manager to take full control of a live new build substation scheme.
This is a key position for an experienced No.1 Site Manager to lead the delivery of a new build substation project from a civil engineering perspective. You will be responsible for the full site operation, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to strict quality standards in line with NPG specifications. This role offers continuity of work beyond the initial programme for the right individual, with further projects already secured.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Full site management responsibilities as No.1 on a substation project
- Overseeing all civil engineering packages including earthworks, cut & fill, drainage, ducting and road construction
- Managing reinforced concrete works including formwork, steelfixing and pours
- Coordinating subcontractors, labour and plant on site
- Driving programme delivery and producing short-term lookahead schedules
- Writing and reviewing RAMS in line with project and safety requirements
- Managing QA processes, ITPs and ensuring compliance with NPG standards
- Maintaining high health & safety standards across site operations
- Liaising with clients, engineers and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget and to specification
About You
- Proven experience working as a No.1 Site Manager on substation, energy or heavy civil engineering projects
- Strong background working with civil engineering subcontractors
- Hands-on experience delivering infrastructure packages including drainage, highways, ducting and concrete structures
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage site teams effectively
- Commercial awareness with a focus on programme and delivery
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and Project
- Experience producing RAMS, programmes and lookaheads
- Strong understanding of QA, ITPs and inspection processes
- Working knowledge of NPG specifications is highly desirable
- Previous setting out / engineering background beneficial but not essential

- HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering (or similar)
- SMSTS
- 3 Day First Aid
- EUSR
- Temporary Works Supervisor
