A leading UK-based Civil Engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer / Site Engineer to join a high-profile Oil & Gas Pipeline project in the Shetland Islands. This is a key freelance role within a well-established delivery team, offering the chance to work on a technically complex and logistically challenging project.
The Role:
- Working alongside an existing management team, Project Manager and Site managers.
- Setting Out duties using GPS, Rotating Laser and total Station. Equipment supplied.
- All associated paperwork / Record Keeping / QA Sub-contract.
- Interpret and implement construction drawings and specifications.
- Prepare and manage setting out data, records, and QA documentation.
- Liaise with site management, subcontractors, and design teams.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Monitor site progress and provide technical support as needed.
- Checking trench depths.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years experience in civil engineering, specifically within pipeline, utilities, or oil & gas infrastructure environments.
Key Qualifications & Skills:
- Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (HNC, HND, Degree).
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and setting out tools.
- Proven experience on pipeline, trenching, and groundworks projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, site safety, and quality assurance procedures.
- Proactive problem-solver with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in remote or rotational conditions.

- Day Rate: £500/day
- Work Pattern: 3 Weeks On / 1 Week Off Rotation
- Earnings Potential: £10,500 per 3-week cycle (includes 2 paid travel days)
