The Company
We are representing a well-established, multi-disciplinary civil engineering contractor with a strong presence across the North West. The business has an excellent reputation for delivering complex public realm, infrastructure and specialist civil engineering schemes, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety and community-focused delivery. Due to the award of a major public realm and regeneration project, they are now seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of this flagship 15 month scheme.
The Role
This is a permanent, senior management position offering long-term stability and exposure to a high-profile civil engineering and public realm project. You will take full ownership of the scheme from pre-construction through to completion, overseeing planning, commercial performance, programme delivery and site operations. The project is in the Manchester area, scope includes earthworks, drainage and infrastructure upgrades, landscaping and public realm enhancements, as well as the refurbishment and redevelopment of existing buildings into leisure, hospitality and community-use facilities.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Overall management and control of the project from pre-construction to final handover
- Programming and planning works to ensure delivery in line with agreed timescales
- Managing site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners
- Ensuring all works are delivered safely, in line with company policies and statutory requirements
- Overseeing budgets, cost control, forecasting and commercial performance
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, consultants and stakeholders
- Ensuring works are delivered to a high standard of quality and specification
- Monitoring progress, identifying risks and implementing proactive solutions
- Supporting tender, pre-construction and planning activities where required
- Leading by example to promote a positive safety culture and professional site environment
About You
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong background in civil engineering, ideally with experience delivering public realm, infrastructure or specialist projects. You will be commercially aware, technically strong and confident managing multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
- Proven experience delivering civil engineering or public realm projects
- Strong understanding of contracts, commercial management and cost control
- Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills
- Ability to plan ahead, manage risk and drive programmes forward
- Strong organisational skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
