Engineering Design Coordinator – SolidWorks Precision Manufacturing Industry Leicester LE8 Up to £45k per annum Annual Bonus, Holiday and Pension About the Role We are seeking a highly organised and technically minded Engineering Design Coordinator / Design Engineer with SolidWorks experience to join a precision manufacturing environment. This is a predominantly office-based engineering role, ideal for someone who enjoys managing a varied workload, working with technical drawings and tooling, and coordinating engineering requirements with external suppliers. You will use your engineering knowledge and SolidWorks skills to create and amend engineering drawings, design tooling and prepare technical information to send to suppliers for quotation. You will also manage engineering documentation, maintain accurate ERP/MRP information and ensure projects, enquiries and engineering requirements are progressed efficiently. The role would suit an organised engineering professional who enjoys the technical side of engineering but is equally comfortable with administration, documentation, supplier liaison and managing multiple priorities. Key Responsibilities – Engineering Design Coordinator Engineering Design & SolidWorks – Create, amend and maintain engineering drawings and technical information using SolidWorks, ensuring designs meet customer and manufacturing requirements. Tooling Design – Design and develop tooling, jigs, fixtures and other engineering requirements, producing the necessary technical information for manufacture. Engineering Administration & Workload Management – Manage and prioritise a varied workload of engineering requirements, ensuring drawings, documentation, enquiries and actions are completed accurately and within agreed timescales. Supplier Quotations – Prepare and issue technical drawings, specifications and requirements to external suppliers to obtain quotations for tooling, components and other engineering requirements. Supplier Liaison – Liaise with suppliers regarding technical requirements, quotations, lead times and queries, ensuring requirements are clearly understood and progressed. Customer Order & Engineering Support – Review customer orders and technical requirements, supporting New Order Review meetings and ensuring all necessary information is accurately captured. Engineering Data & ERP Management – Create and maintain item numbers, BOMs, manufacturing routings, product drawings and costing information within the ERP/MRP system. Technical & Quality Documentation – Prepare, maintain and control engineering and quality documentation, including FAI reports, Acceptance Test Reports, environmental test records and product quality files. Engineering Change Control – Support engineering change reviews and ensure changes are accurately reflected across drawings, BOMs, routings and associated documentation. Cross-Functional Support – Work closely with Manufacturing, Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Customer Service and external suppliers to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered effectively. Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, documentation, tooling, supplier management and overall efficiency. What We're Looking For – Engineering Design Coordinator Previous experience working within an engineering or manufacturing environment. Proven experience using SolidWorks to create, modify and maintain engineering drawings. Strong understanding of engineering principles, components, tooling and manufacturing processes. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Experience designing tooling, jigs, fixtures or similar engineering components. Experience dealing with suppliers and obtaining quotations would be advantageous. Experience with ERP/MRP systems, BOM creation and manufacturing routings. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when working with technical documentation. Good communication skills and confidence liaising with both internal teams and external suppliers. A methodical, proactive and organised approach to work. Comfortable working in a predominantly office-based, technical and administrative engineering role.
