Our established client designs and manufactures high-performance optical components, from prototype to volume production. They are looking for technicians with experience in coating components to join their growing team. Commutable from South Leicester, Wigston, Oadby, Blaby, Whetstone and surrounding areas.
The Role of Optical Coating Technician
- To assist the coating department by using optical technological knowledge to help with production requirements
- Run numerous processes on a minimum of 2 coating plants in the department successfully, and the appropriate paperwork/route sheets correctly
- Operate thin film coating chambers
- Measure and assess work on the appropriate spectrophotometers
- Identify potential coating problems 'in process' and take appropriate corrective action
- Examine work prior to coating and be satisfied it is fit to coat
- Determine and specify the suitability of jigs for coating taking account of aspects such as clear aperture, outer dimensions, condition of jig being used, etc.
- Identify potential problems with the coating plant/measuring equipment and alert the appropriate support staff
- Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures as required
Key Candidate Requirements - Lab Technician
- A good understanding of optical manufacturing
- Experience operating thin film coating chambers, or similar, in a lab environment
- Possess the ability to identify and carry out routine preventative maintenance of critical process control features
- Qualifications in Mathematics and Physics at least to GCSE or 'A' level
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with Excel and Word
- The ability to analyse situations and results (reasoning ability and logical thought)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent mechanical skills
- A team player, as well as the ability to work independently
- Having an eye for detail
